Position Purpose

UC Riverside Extension is the continuing education and professional studies branch of the University of California, Riverside. It operates independently as a nonprofit division of UCR. For more than 50 years UCR Extension has served the Inland Empire community and international students and provided educational opportunities to people of all ages - with or without a college degree - seeking professional advancement, a new career or personal fulfillment.

Overseeing the graphic design staff in the Marketing Department of UCR Extension, the New Media Manager (NMM) is responsible for managing the visual components of our brand across multiple print, multimedia, online and mobile platforms. Reporting to the Marketing Director, the NMM works in close collaboration with web programmers, content providers and other department resources to identify opportunities and meet enrollment management goals.

There are three distinct parts to this position, and candidates must be able to demonstrate their ability to handle each one successfully:

Be responsible for all hands-on design, development and delivery of electronic media needs, including animated advertising, social media links, e-newsletters, graphic e-mails, web pages, landing pages and forms as necessary.

Oversee day-to-day activities of creative production process, including print and electronic media, to meet deadlines and budgets.

Provide back-up to graphic designer for all aspects of print design and production.

Create and deploy animated advertising, social media links, e-newsletters, graphic emails, web pages, landing pages and forms as necessary.

Using interactive design, responsive web design and mobile technology, design and deliver compelling experiences to target audiences.

Possess a thorough understanding of the practical benefits and limitations of Internet technologies, and be able to share this expertise with appropriate team members.

Apply the mechanics and operating philosophy of mobile products, including an understanding of the optimal experience for a student, on mobile apps, messaging and video, to create new marketing media.

Convert video formats and optimize video assets for use in websites and other online media environments.

Work closely with other department resources to provide branding and graphics in formats needed for electronic media.

Using a variety of software packages, develop creative original material, including images, graphics, sound and video that adhere to Extension identity guidelines and further strategic goals.

Keep abreast of emerging design trends, best practices, and web-based technologies.

Provide leadership in advancing the UCR Extension brand identity through innovative management of graphic design staff and other resources.

Provide graphic design support for the Extension website.

Serve our internal clients by leading project assessments, managing staff assignments (including outside vendors) and creating and monitoring production schedules

Supervise graphic design staff, including one FTE design position, student interns and freelance resources.

Administrative duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Requirements

7+ years combined experience in interactive web, mobile, and print in a retail or advertising environment, digital design firm, or advertising agency.

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, interactive media, advertising or related field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expert knowledge of printing process, print file prep, use of HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, Dreamweaver, Action Script, CS 6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks) as well as a solid understanding of practical benefits and limitations of Internet technologies (Flash, javascript, css, video.)
