Position Purpose
Under the general direction of the Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Specialist administers the Waste Diversion Education Program to include data collection, analysis, reporting, training, and communication. The Specialist is also responsible for peer education, advertising, and outreach to promote sustainability initiatives, recruit student volunteers, increase awareness of campus programs, and plan weekly outreach and special events. The Specialist maintains the department's social media presence by updating the department's website and blog page. |

Conduct campus waste audits by collecting data, analyzing surveys, weighing bins, and calculating percentages of diverted waste. Create basic waste diversion reports to illustrate percent of actual diverted waste against program goals. Evaluate and recommend optimal waste bin locations to allocate or reallocate resources throughout the campus. Plan and coordinate annual RecycleMania campus activities by recruiting and training volunteers and implementing innovative strategies to increase recycling and composting initiatives. Assess current Waste Diversion Education programs to expand waste diversion awareness. |

Peer Education Coordination and Outreach | 30 |
Coordinate all aspects of the student peer-to peer education network by promoting sustainability initiatives on campus, recruiting student volunteers, and educating students on campus programs. Promote and advocate The Green Campus Action Plan (GCAP) by increasing student awareness of opportunities to act upon and implement sustainability methods on the campus. Engage and network with peers on campus through various student venues and Saturday fairs to expand waste diversion programs and provide them with resources to get involved. Develop and implement targeted outreach programs to reach the Office of Sustainability's diverse audiences by researching and cultivating relationships with the campus community that will attract diverse advocates in support of the campus sustainability commitment. |
