Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Freshmen Recruitment and Evaluation, organize and administer motivational and informational programs throughout California aimed at increasing UCR enrollment from high achieving high school students. Responsible for all phases of eligibility evaluation of freshmen applicants based on self-reported information, official transcripts, and other pertinent documents. As an official representative of the University, is available to prospective and admitted students, their families, the campus community, and the general public to interpret, enforce, and explain University policies and regulations. Represents the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the University at workshops, counselor conferences, college fairs, high school visits, and a variety of on and off-campus yield events.

-Determine eligibility of freshman applicants based on undergraduate admissions guidelines and accepted articulation agreements.
-Grant appropriate transfer credit based on University policies.
-Responsible for admission decisions, to include full consideration of academic record and subject criteria such as special talents, disabilities, low income, personal difficulties, and special programs.
-Exercise independent discretion in determining whether recommendation for admission by exception is warranted.
-Reevaluates and adjusts provisions of admission for those who experience significant changes in their academic and personal circumstances.
-Review and evaluate final official transcripts in order to complete files of freshman students who have indicated intent to enroll on the UC Riverside campus.
Outreach and Recruitment 35
-Conduct visits at high schools as well as community and educational agencies and provide presentations to tours groups to provide information on: 1) Educational opportunities available at the University of California, particularly, UC Riverside: 2) UC admissions criteria and procedures: 3) UC Riverside majors and academic programs: 4) Financial Aid, including merit based aid and 5) Housing, student life, athletic programs and career opportunities.
-Communicate with prospective students in a virtual environment using computers to initiate admissions online chat or Skype sessions, virtual college fairs and other virtual recruitment methods.
-Build strong and sustainable relationships with high schools throughout the state of California.
-Represent and speak formally on behalf of UC Riverside and the UC system at freshman advisement programs.
-Interact with prospective and current students, staff, faculty administrators and general public.
-Assist in developing and implementing strategies to increase the applications and enrollment numbers of high achieving high school students to the University of California, Riverside.
-Review state, county and district educational data, UC enrollment figures and UCR recruitment reports to help analyze the list of recruitment sites and resource personnel.
-Conduct counseling and student outreach through the Undergraduate Recruitment Intelliworks system.
Counseling/Correspondence/Communication 20
-Conduct individual counseling sessions for freshmen, their parents, professional educators, and outside agencies on both an appointment and drop-in basis. Obtain information regarding academic background, current enrollment, and courses planned.
-Respond by adjusting individual counseling efforts to the continual change in academic offerings, major changes, and personal circumstances of prospective and admitted transfer students.
-Counsel students not qualified for admission to the University and assist in program planning for future UC eligibility or assist in exploring alternative forms of education.
Planning, Reporting and Other 10
-Determine eligibility of a limited number of transfer applicants, based on undergraduate admissions guidelines.
-Serve as the liaison between the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and community colleges, selected high schools and pre-university service programs including Early Academic Development Program and Upward Bound.
-Participate in Admissions Counselor meetings for short and long-range planning.
-Work as part of a team in the planning and organization of strategies to meet unit needs to include participation in committees and ongoing evaluation development projects.
-Prepare reports at the end of recruitment cycles and end of the academic year providing detailed accounts of high school visits and presentations made at college fairs and other. The end of the year report is to provide, 1) overall outcomes compared to recruitment activities, e.g., number of applications, SIRs, and enrolled students from each high school visited and 2) suggestions for improvements in the upcoming year.
