Position Purpose
Under supervision, the Assistant Farm Mechanic assists in the maintenance and repair of trucks (light to heavy duty), tractors, agricultural farm equipment and implements. Incumbents typically lubricate designated parts of farm machinery; operate field service trucks for lubrication, refueling, and minor field repairs; dismount, repair and replace tires; make sheet metal repairs; weld and braze; operate metal lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other shop tools; and perform other related duties as required. |

Charge, service, and replace batteries in vehicles as required. Install and replace fan belts, oil, fuel and air filters. Check, repair, adjust, and replace brakes. Install, replace, rotate, and balance tires. Repair or replace shock absorbers. Operates pressure washer to clean engines, chassis, and equipment. Conduct routine safety and repair inspections, reporting results to supervisor. |

Farm Machinery Repair | 30 |
Assists in adjusting and repairing a wide variety of farm equipment, including pickup trucks, light and heavy trucks, tractors (wheel and track type), trailers, spray equipment, harvesters, planters, cultivators, various farm implements, turf machines, small engines, air compressors, graders, and wind machines powered by propane and electricity, and other types of equipment. Assists in removing, disassembling, replacing or repairing gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, steering, brakes, exhaust, cooling, heating, air-conditioning systems, electrical/mechanical hydraulic systems, and body and chassis components. Assists in repairing or replacing engine parts, such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Assists in overhauling or replacing carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Assists in rewiring ignition system, lights, and instrument panel. Operate forklift. Performs the total repair work or tune-up for limited parts of farm equipment such as the brake, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. |
