Position Purpose

Under general direction from the Manager of the Enrollment Services Department, the International Student Advisor serves as an advisor for students, staff, faculty, and the public participating in International Education Programs Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and advisor for international students in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. Advise students, faculty, and public on university polices and immigration laws. Maintain SEVIS updates and perform the following SEVIS functions, including: issuance of initial attendance I-20s, travel signatures, transfer-in I-20s, etc. Develop and implement resources, materials, and presentations to effectively provide information to students regarding immigration rules and regulations for B1/B2, and visa waivers. Through advising, communicate with students and staff regarding the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan, acting as a liaison with all parties involved. This position provides administrative support to the Office of Enrollment Services heavy walk-in population as well. Performance of responsibilities with great attention to detail, flexibility and enthusiasm for international education is essential.

Serve as a DSO to support the enrollment of F-1, B1/B2 and Visa Waiver students.

Issuance of initial attendance I-20s, travel signatures, transfer-in I-20s and biographical information updates in SEVIS, etc.

Advise students regarding US immigration regulations, IEP immigration policies, and how these regulations may be applied to particular situations including, but not limited to traveling outside the US, registering for future quarters, immigration documents and information needed for reporting to SEVIS.

Keep abreast of immigration policy and procedure revisions affecting students, and be aware of the most recent laws, legal and legislation affecting prospective, present, and continuing students.

Assist the Enrollment Services Coordinator and fellow International Student Advisors with ensuring that all students remain in the proper status while enrolled with IEP.

Manage confidential paper and electronic files in accordance with university, FERPA, USCIS, DHS, and DOS regulations.

B1/B2 Visa/Visa Waiver Orientations for special group registrations.

Advising of all B Visa/Visa Waiver special program students regarding immigration status and regulations.

Participate in the development and maintenance of an updated list of immigration FAQ's.

Prepare a quarterly Immigration Newsletter for the student population.
Advisor of the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan including, but not limited to: 25
Focused day to day advising of the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan to students, staff and other third party health care employees.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of the health insurance plan and institutional policies in order to present health insurance information during mandatory orientations.

Development, implementation and promotion of workshops to provide students with resources, benefits and health care information.
Critically review and evaluate student claims for accurate and appropriate submission.

Assist in scheduling medical appointments and following through with both students and health care providers as allowed by policy and procedure.

Resolve student health insurance issues by analytical problem solving, contacting doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies and preparing the necessary paperwork.

Liaise with First Health Network, Ascension Benefits & Insurance Solutions, and Personal Insurance Administrator (PIA).

Compile and analyze data for all eligibility reporting/rosters and prepare reports (including ad hoc reports) as required/requested.

Review and research overseas health insurance policies for approval/denial recommendation to the Enrollment Services Manager for all special groups requesting the insurance waiver program.

Develop, prepare and update the Health Insurance Presentation, resources and all handouts to ensure accuracy of policy, resources and services.
Provide support to the Office of Enrollment Services, including but not limited to: 5
Provide assistance to a large number of walk-in students and answering telephone general inquiries about IEP.

Maintenance of electronic student files and uploading documents.

Provide additional assistance at Returning and New Student Registration and Orientations. Registration of students in the Student Information System.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience counseling and/or advising students including interpreting and explaining policies and procedures to individuals and groups.

Experience performing research, interpreting policies and regulations to resolve complex problems.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with students from other countries clearly, thoroughly, and with patience; and excellent compositional and public speaking skills

Demonstrated strong organizational skills to coordinate large volumes of work, establish priorities, and meet a complex set of deadlines.

Superior interpersonal skills to foster and maintain good working relationships with a diversity of individuals; including establishing rapport, gaining trust and maintaining cooperative working relationships across organizational boundaries.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and use good judgment;

Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast paced environment, with constant interruptions, and a heavy workload.

Proficiency in the use of various computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, calendars, email, and the Internet.
