Position Purpose

The Coordinator of Orientation and First Year Programs will provide direction, guidance, and support to the Highlander Orientation for freshmen, First Year Programs, and Commuter Programs in the Student Life Office. The Coordinator will further provide active support to large scale-campus wide events coordinated through the Student Life Office.

Highlander Orientation Program:

In collaboration the Director of Student Life and colleagues across the University, plan, direct, implement and evaluate campus-wide new student orientation programs is to assist 3800 new students and their families transition to UCR.
1) Research, design, market, and assist with execution of an annual program that meets the needs of UCR's diverse first-year students.
2) Develop collegial relationships with various campus partners to help implement the Highlander Orientation Program.
3) Coordinate logistical functions including facility scheduling through Academic Scheduling, Highlander Union Building and departmental space (as needed), Physical Plant and Multi-Media requests.
4) Participate in monthly Orientation workgroup meetings, including presenting information, problem-solving and serving as a liaison to campus partners.
5) Oversee the online registration tool and administrative site that the students, families, and campus partners use. Work closely with VCSA Technology Services or other vendor to implement on-going enhances and modifications.
6) Coordinate and implement a comprehensive assessment plan of the Orientation program.
7) Ensure compliance with university policies and regulations, including FERPA
8) Coordinate the updating and printing of Orientation marketing and promotion materials required to promote the program, including, but not limited to, the Student, Family and Spanish Language mailer, Confirmation Cards, Guide to UCR, Student and Family folders and their contents.

First Year Programs:

1) Provide overall guidance and direction for the Frist Year Programs offered in the Student Life Office.
2) Support the Student Affairs Officer that directly oversees the First Year Programs.

Commuter Programs:

1) Provide overall guidance and direction for the Commuter Programs offered in the Student Life Office.
Budget and Fiscal Management 20
1) Manage departmental operating budget of approximately $1,000,000 involving multiple fund sources and types of funds.
2) Work closely with Director of Student Life and Orientation and First Year Programs team, to establish budget priorities that are consistent with campus, divisional, and departmental goals and objectives.
3) Ensure that proper fiscal controls are established and maintained, and manage funds in compliance with campus, divisional, departmental and program goals and objectives.
Human Resource Management 20
1) Recruit, select, train, supervise and provide active mentorship to Student Affairs Officers, Graduate Interns, and student employees.
2) Foster a collegial atmosphere among the Orientation and First Year programs team, the Student Life staff and between the staff and various other campus departments and constituents.
3) Develop and communicate performance and evaluation standards for staff.
4) Ensure compliance with university personnel policies and regulations.
5) Coordinate professional development opportunities for all Student Life staff members.
Student Life and Campus Life Initiatives 10
1) Assist with planning and implementation of campus life and departmental events and activities, such as Block Party, Highlander Welcome, Homecoming, and other events as deemed necessary.
2) Assist with staffing of campus life and departmental events as deemed necessary.
3) Coordinate and implement department resources and services as needed.
