About the position: Under direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, the Executive Director of Foundation Relations will manage the strategy and day-to-day efforts to attract gifts from foundations in order to advance the fundraising priorities of UCR. The Executive Director identifies, cultivates, and maintains relationships with major foundations accordingly and is responsible for securing foundation gifts and building partnerships with foundations. The Executive Director will also oversee the Director of Foundation Relations. The responsibilities of the Executive Director of Foundation Relations affect all organizational units on campus relative to private support policies, procedures, and cultivation and solicitation activities. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the incumbent:

-Advises him/her of opportunities and issues of importance to the campus and the University.

-Assists in developing and implementing policies, objectives, and goals for the campus wide development effort with foundations.

-As necessary, frequently work closely with various faculty and senior campus administrators, especially the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Vice Chancellor for Research, and Deans to develop opportunities and proposals for private support.

-Supports the activities of all unit based development officers on the campus.

-Maintains close working relationship with academic deans and program directors in identifying and defining opportunities and cultivation strategies related to development efforts in their areas.

-Maintains close working relationships with all central Development Office staff and other staff in University Advancement units.

-Maintains working relationships with members of the UC Riverside Foundation Board of Trustees and other community groups and friends of the University.

-Maintain effective relationships with numerous philanthropic foundation board program officers.

-Works closely with deans, faculty, and administration to develop funding opportunities for UCR programs from foundations

-Serves as a member of comprehensive campaign planning and implementation committees, as assigned.

-Provides counsel to the deans/directors and college/school/program-based development directors in the cultivation and solicitation of foundations.
Portfolio Management- Foundation Relations 50
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, the incumbent;
-Oversees, coordinates and manages the campus development effort in the area of foundation relations for the colleges/schools, and academic and co-curricular programs.

-Develops and directs major initiatives for the campus around the cultivation and solicitation of major foundations.

-Manages a portfolio of high-level foundation prospects with broad campus interests.

-Works with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development and the Vice Chancellor for Research to develop and coordinate comprehensive campaigns for the campus, designated high priorities for research, including but not limited to CE-CERT, Genomics, School of Medicine, Conservation Biology, CIS, Arts Block, Stem Cell Center, Public Policy Initiative, and others.

-Manages the financial and staff resources assigned to the Executive Director for Foundation functional area.

-Works collaboratively with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and his/her staff, where appropriate, in review of institutional grant proposals to private foundations.

-Serves as a member of the Extramural Funds Classification Committee convened by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research.

-Provides assistance to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Assistant Vice Chancellor as needed.

-Provides support and counsel to the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees committees as requested.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a related field; or equivalent related experience.

Six to nine years' experience with major corporate and/or foundation fundraising and proven ability to create and secure new funding sources for university from public and private sectors.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with deans and directors, academic and University leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including solicitation of prospective donors, cultivation, stewardship and donor recognition.

Experience in a leadership role to work effectively with advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs within a major university.

Successful experience using a broad range of communication methods to shape management initiatives and build alliances and partnerships.

Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.

Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills including the ability to work effectively with individuals from various status ranks from diverse institutional and community sectors to achieve common objectives.
