Position Purpose

The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position and serves as a member of the Residence Life Professional team. The RD is responsible for resident orientation to community living; resident counseling; policy enforcement and jurisprudence; on-site crisis response; student organization advising; student programming; student staff recruitment, selection, training and evaluation; housing management and special projects. The RD provides a variety of support services to the residential students and assists with the management of the housing program. The residential facilities include residence halls, apartments and family housing.

SUPERVISION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT 40
The RD is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Assistant Resident Director(s), Resident Advisors, Academic Outreach Coordinator, and Program Coordinators for their area. RDs supervise between 4 and 25 student staff members, and may include ARDs. The RD encourages student staff success by offering leadership, developmental assistance, and feedback while monitoring standards of employment. In conjunction with the other Residence Life staff team the RD works to recruit, select and train all Housing student staff. The RD conducts regular staff meetings in order to relay pertinent information, review procedures and discuss concerns. The RD is responsible for teaching and facilitating a section of the Leadership Seminar that is devised for incoming student staff. This includes monitoring student progress in the seminar and assessing their abilities as a potential staff member.
STUDENT CONDUCT 20
The RD serves as the official hearing officer for their area. As such, they have direct responsibility for adjudicating assigned caseloads including but not limited to: receiving information reports, processing student conduct cases in their area, providing feedback, follow-up and information to the AD for Judicial Affairs. The RD applies principles of student development in the administration of Housing policy and procedure, holds formal hearings, advises students, negotiates behavioral agreements and mandates referrals to appropriate campus offices. The RD will be responsible for the selection, training and advising of student conflict resolution teams
ADVISING 10
The RD will serve as a Student Organization advisor, and has the responsibility of promoting and developing student leadership initiatives. This may include involvement and knowledge of RHA, NRHH, Peer Review Board, CARA, Peer Mentor groups and other student organizations.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 10
Through staff supervision and student outreach, the Resident Director facilitates and develops a sense of community and responsibility among residents and the development of their academic, intellectual, cultural and social development. The RD accomplishes this by attending community activities, speaking to residents in their area, and providing personal outreach and general visibility.

The RD works with the office staff with the coordination of move-ins and move-outs for their area. This includes collection of keys, room inventory inspections and damage assessments. The RD accomplishes this primarily through the RAs and PCs. The RD works with the Housing Assignments staff to ensure appropriate placement and approved room changes. The RD is to serve as a liaison between residents and the Housing staff (Residence Life, Desk staff, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Dining Services and the Housing Administration) and keeps in regular communication with the appropriate representatives in their area. The RD supports the Assistant Manager of Conference Services in all marketing efforts including but not limited to the host program, Preview Day, the Chancellor's Welcome and high school/community college visits
COLLABORATION WITH CAMPUS DEPARTMENT 10
The RD may serve as a liaison between HD&RS and campus departments by serving on campus committees and working with departments on campus issues. The RD promotes professional development by participating in professional organizations and various campus committees. The RD will also work with their staff and residents to do outreach to the greater Riverside community including but not limited to service projects and other activities that serve the community.
EMERGENCY/CRISIS RESPONSE 10
The RD serves in a 12-month, on-call duty rotation that is responsible for responding to on-site crises and collaborating with other campus on call resources (i.e., policy, counseling, etc.) for an on-campus Housing population of over 6,000 students. In conjunction with other staff, the RD has the responsibility for on-site crisis, disaster and emergency response. The RD assists with the counseling process, intervening in emergency and critical situations.
