Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Police Lieutenant, the Sergeant is responsible for the supervision of Patrol Officers while maintaining the chain of command within the department. The Sergeant directs law enforcement operations in the field; manages the day to day activities of sworn police officers to ensure the adherence to policies and procedures, regulations, orders and laws; and provides leadership and supervision of a unit within the department by enforcing regulations and policies for assigned personnel. The Sergeant also inspects the work of subordinates, provides performance coaching and feedback during performance evaluations; implements training to meet professional development needs; and takes corrective action when necessary to protect the welfare of the employee, integrity of the department, and safety of the community. In the absence of a ranking officer, the Sergeant also assumes leadership command of the department, and performs patrol and collateral duties as required. |
