Position Purpose

The Research Analyst coordinates and oversees Student Affairs research and evaluation requests, performs statistical reporting, and administers and manages surveys, to include external survey response and consulting on internal survey requests. This position is responsible for providing enrollment planning analysis to campus committees, Student Affairs departments and programs, and others, as needed, in order to meet campus and organizational strategic and operational goals and performance metrics.

The Research Analyst is a key member of the Enrollment Management Systems team within the Student Affairs organization.

Essential Functions

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting 35
Execute data analysis programs to perform statistical analysis. Import/export data into spreadsheet programs, design and produce graphs and tables, reviewing tables for accuracy, usefulness, and consistency between reports. Interpret results and provide written summaries and oral presentations, to a variety of audiences in a format that is most suitable for that audience.

Create quantitative models utilizing advanced statistical methods such as ANOVA, logistics regression, etc. in order to develop enrollment projections and predictions.

Work with and manipulate large data set using various database tools. Interpret and test data for statistical significance and relevance. Analyze survey returns and institutional data.

Develop reports and data analysis as requested by Academic Senate and associated committees, such as the Undergraduate Admissions Committee.

Provide programming support and data analysis for a variety of monitoring and evaluation activities using large and complex administrative and survey data sets.

Write code to collect, extract, manipulate, and organize data from multiple sources including UCR student information system, data extracts from external organizations, etc. using programming languages such as SQL, FOCUS, and JCL.

Create adhoc reports and analysis using institutional, survey, and external data and trends, as needed.

Monitor research and trends in higher education and disseminate findings for application and use to staff.

Ensure compliance with rules and regulations related to FERPA, confidentiality, human subjects protocols, and data security. Manage student affairs institutional databases and design and maintain appropriate configuration and documentation for most effective and efficient methods for storing, retrieving, and archiving the data. Ensure all security measures are in place to prevent unauthorized access. Document all processes used to extract and summarize data.
Survey Management and Administration 35
Develop, design, and administer online surveys on topics including, but not limited to, student experience, student satisfaction, and student success. Work with departments to insure surveys meet their desired needs and measure appropriate outcomes. Provide technical advice to departments in the creation and implementation of surveys.

Manage SARE online survey system. Write code and develop additional systems as necessary to successfully implement surveys including creation of the survey instrument, authentication, email notification, and tracking access. Create status and systems reports. Work with the technical contacts to establish, and then periodically review, systems for capturing data that allows progress against the agreed outcomes to be measured.

Manage and administer yearly campus surveys including, but not limited to, 6 Month Post-Graduation Survey, Next Destination Survey, and Positive/Negative SIR Survey.

Serve as the primary contact and coordinate all system-wide surveys, such as UCUES and CIRP.

Completes federal, state, local, and institutional college guide and recruitment related surveys and questionnaires, such as Peterson's, Wintergreen, Kiplinger, Fiske, etc.

Ensure that data and information supplied in surveys and questionnaires are accurate, consistent, and timely.

In conjunction with Director of Enrollment Management Systems and the Director of Student Affairs Communications evaluates and recommends the appropriateness of survey participation based on a variety of factors including public relations concerns, and the reliability and the likelihood of an un-biased representation of UCR.
Project Management and Consultation 20
Respond to requests from Student Affairs departments for research projects and surveys that respond to particular set of questions, issues, and problems utilizing institutional and survey data, as well as information gathered from external agencies and systems. Ensure that research and evaluation projects are clearly defined and the data collected meets their needs.

Evaluate requests for research and evaluation of departmental or institutional policy and procedure. Provide project leadership and maintain accountability for project objectives. Create project time lines, identify resource challenges, and set priorities.

Independently assess projects for length of time to completion and prioritize and manage workload.

Consult with the project sponsor, UCOP and UCR technical contacts, campus research and evaluation offices, and other outside agencies as needed to determine feasibility of departmental requests.

Provide regular updates to the director on research findings and special projects as they pertain to student affairs in higher education.

Manage all requests for data analysis, student profiles, and application, admission, and enrollment projections from Academic Senate and associated committees, such as the Undergraduate Admissions Committee.
