Position Purpose

Under general supervision of the department Manager and Multimedia Systems Engineer, incumbent will support network based multimedia equipment in support of instruction, special events, and academic related projects. This support includes performing operational-level programming and systems analysis. Will assist in planning computing requirements and other technical resources to achieve department and university mission. Supports integration of computing systems with existing multimedia systems in general assignment classrooms to include software, hardware, and network connectivity. Incumbent will assist in the design, creation and installation of advance multimedia presentation and control systems. The position is responsible for maintenance of all existing multimedia systems in general assignment classrooms and selected departmental spaces, including regular maintenance, upgrades, and emergency repairs.

This position will have a nontraditional work schedule. It will vary several times per academic year depending on the academic quarter and departmental activities. The position could change shifts on a quarterly basis and on a 'as needed basis'. It will start out as a swing-shift (late afternoon to evening shift). Prior notice will be provided for each shift change when needed.

Essential Functions

Multimedia Systems Operation and Installation 70
Collaborate with other department analyst and systems engineer in the design of new multimedia systems and enhancements to existing systems in 88 General Assignment classrooms and designated departmental spaces. Assist in installation planning. Independently perform all aspects of complex A/V installations, which may include, but are not limited to installing display hardware including projectors and LCD panels; constructing complex engineering racks consisting of multiple input devices, signal processors, control systems, A/V switchers, audio amplifiers, signal extenders, and audio DSP's; installing and terminating standard types of A/V cabling in both conduit and plenum spaces; and configuring networked components and control systems.

Direct student employees to conduct more routine installations and upgrades, such as projector and component replacement.

Support campus classroom technology help desk by troubleshooting computers, services, networks, multimedia control systems and multimedia display hardware. Check Hardware/software malfunctions both remotely and in person; diagnose; and repair or provide detailed repair instructions to subordinate student technicians. Assist in planning new projects, including hardware, software and network requirements.
Install and maintain operating systems software and monitor system performance. Act as liaison with networked workstations, various services and multimedia management and operating systems such as: Altiris, various Apple OS's, various Windows OS's, Extron, and Crestron. Manage and direct the support of all classroom multimedia systems using eControl and IP-Link control systems. Act as local technical support with complete technical mastery of system internals, operating systems and system interrelationships. Respond to messages from application programs and system software.
Assist in the installation, maintenance, management and deployment of 125+ workstations, and provide support for client-management system related issues. Provide systems support for all classroom computing systems and multimedia systems, including user account maintenance, archival and backup, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, network and all inter-connectivity.

Multimedia Systems Maintenance and Repair. 30
Create and implement a maintenance program for the A/V systems in the campus' 88 General Assignment classrooms. This program will include detailed asset tracking and assessment; lamp life monitoring and replacement; and scheduled maintenance and cleaning. Supervise and coordinate Multimedia's student technicians to carry out the various aspects of the maintenance program. Due to room availability most of these activities will take place in the late evening hours.
Assist with podcasting and course capture and publishing services by connecting and configuring classroom technology to digitize audio and video. Interact with project leads and other programmers to provide programming/systems support and implement directed changes to classroom systems.
Provide end-user training and consulting on classroom computing workstations, software, and multimedia hardware. Keep current with developments in desktop computing, desktop networking, multimedia display hardware, multimedia control software and multimedia hardware networking.

Information Technology Experience
Demonstrated knowledge of multimedia technology systems internals, operating systems and system interrelationships. Experience with operating, installing and maintaining PC software, hardware and computer-related peripherals. Experience with installing, maintaining, and user training web based collaborative tools such as Adobe Connect and Webex. Experience with standard videoconferencing codes, including Polycom and Lifesize. Knowledge of computer security protocols and virus protection issues. Basic knowledge of web application tools and various software used to support web page development and deployment including Dreamweaver, Photoshop and ftp tools. Experience with web graphics and web multimedia techniques, including interactive programming, filtering and file conversions. Basic experience with a range of programming and query languages, including MySQL, Javascript, PHP, PXE. Skill in creating and editing documents in word processing applications using moderately advanced features. Skill in creating spreadsheets and reports using Word, Access and Excel. Skill in exporting/importing data from or to different software applications or data collection and retrieval. Experience with maintaining simple or moderately complex databases through data entry, data queries, and database design modifications. Experience using standard office computer applications such as internet search engines, email, calendar, spreadsheet & word processing.

Multimedia and Control Systems Experience
Demonstrated mastery installing multimedia systems to industry application standards. Demonstrated advance level programming and configuration skills with standard control system protocols and languages, including Creston, Extron, Lutron, Biamp, and Peavey. Experience planning, developing and fabricating engineering systems. Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the application of principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and construction of physical facilities. Experience with building and installing advance multimedia display and control systems from standard engineering drawings.
