Position Purpose

The UCR/California Museum of Photography Curatorial Assistant will work closely with the Curator of Exhibitions by assisting with all aspects of exhibition research, planning, installation and de-installation, education, media relations, and administrative tasks.

Essential Functions

Museum Administration 30
Prepare exhibition programs, brochures, and other materials.
Conceive, write and edit press releases, articles and brochure text as needed for museum exhibitions and events.
Assist with museum PR and Media Relations department and campaigns, as well as membership as needed.
Coordinate all aspects of the Curatorial Advisory Committee, including organizing and attending meetings, recording minutes, and making travel arrangements for Committee Participants.
Track budgets with ARTSblock Administrative Staff.
Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.

Exhibition 25
Help with shipping and logistics of exhibition planning, installation and de-installation as needed.
Accompany Curator of Exhibitions/Director on studio visits or go as his designated representative.
Attend and at times supervise museum event and exhibition openings.
Research 20
Research and compile information about local, national and international contemporary art world trends and exhibitions, artists, and press contacts.
Write summaries of research information for use by Curator of Exhibitions as needed.
Answer questions, supply research material, and provide other customer services to patrons in person, via phone, email, or US mail.
Assist with the writing preparation, coordination, and submission of grant proposals.

Participate in public outreach activities including teaching, guided tours, lectures and demonstrations

Oversee the production and workflow of projects initiated by or assigned to you. Review and develop new procedures and guidelines for handling projects you manage, as well as the proper procedure for handling exceptions.
Provide training and direction in student staffing assignments.

Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Contemporary Art, Museum Studies, or similar degree.

Skill in making oral and written presentations through various media formats to colleagues or subordinates to provide information, instructions, or explain subjects of interest.

The UCR/California Museum of Photography is seeking a Curatorial Assistant who will work closely with the Curator of Exhibitions by assisting with all aspects of exhibition research, planning, installation, programming, media relations, and related administrative duties. In addition to assisting with the production of changing exhibitions and programs, the Assistant will coordinate special projects, such as a major exhibition and publication that will focus on the work of Latin American and Latino artists whose works resonate with science fiction themes.
