Position Purpose

Senior Director of Regional Development – East Coast: This regional director position resides on the east coast and will play an important role in growing the overall donor base and building long-term strategic and resource capacity for the University's general fundraising efforts in in New York, Boston, and Washington DC. Under general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development, the Senior Director of Regional Development will play an important role in growing the overall donor base and building long-term strategic and resource capacity for the University's general fundraising efforts in New York, Boston, and Washington DC. The Senior Director of Regional Development will be responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors and prospects ($25,000 and above). The incumbent is responsible for building a pipeline of major gift activity, connecting alumni, donors, friends, volunteers and other constituents to the efforts of the campus and, ultimately, for increasing individual gifts to colleges, schools, departments, and programs. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

Develop and maintain a portfolio of prospects and donors at the major gift level ($25,000) and above in geographic regions of the United States as assigned with a focus on prospects New York, Boston and Washington DC

Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, prospects, alumni, friends, volunteers and other campus constituents to increase major gifts in assigned geographic region.

Develop and oversee the planning, organization and implementation of prospect cultivation and solicitation for assigned programs and priorities of the campus.

Enlist the involvement of campus leadership, including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, Department Chairs, faculty, staff, and development officers, and connect with potential volunteers and donors as appropriate and necessary.

Attend university events and travel as appropriate to represent the university and support fundraising efforts. Foster and model collegiality and collaboration in the Office of Development and Advancement unit.

Prepare written proposals and/or other special materials for use during donor cultivation and solicitation.

Organize and direct donor solicitation involving key volunteers and academic leaders and participate in major donor solicitations as appropriate.

Devise and oversee the implementation of methods for acknowledging, recognizing, and stewarding major gifts; maintain regular and consistent contact with past donors. Encourage the active participation of major donors and volunteers to ensure their constant awareness of current needs and objectives.

Direct the organization, planning and implementation of volunteer committees, groups, and/or events as may be appropriate and necessary to meet established fund raising objectives in an assigned geographic region.

Participate in meetings and develop major gift strategies for regional donors and prospects.

Maintain appropriate records on all donors and prospects under management, including paper files and in an electronic database.

Prepare an annual operating plan and budget for regional major gift fundraising program.

Travel regionally to meet with donors and prospects and to UC Riverside campus to meetings as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years fundraising experience, preferably in higher education environment.

Demonstrated broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising, working within a major research university environment. Knowledge of University Advancement functions and ability to coordinate and integrate fundraising efforts with alumni, media relations and marketing professionals within advancement.

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a program of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision, plan and articulate future directions and meet the needs of multiple entities.

Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including cultivation, stewardship and donor recognition.
