Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Manager of Registrar Systems, the Data Analyst is responsible for reporting and data analysis. This position will also be responsible for assisting Student Affairs Information Systems (SAIS) staff with other projects or tasks during the implementation of the new student information system.

Write, generate and distribute requests for data from Enrollment Management departments, the three undergraduate degree-granting colleges, the Chancellor's Office, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and other Student Affairs offices, as well as outside University-affiliated agencies.

Apply knowledge of the structure and content of the legacy Student Information System when reviewing data requests and consult with users to accurately define their report requests. Assist staff in evaluating data requests and provide suggestions to improve the validity and presentation of data.

Develop, prepare and test reports for addition to the Operational Processing Calendar (OPC). Automate and minimize ad-hoc reports by organizing and placing reoccurring requests on the OPC. Identify and move reports to iReport, as needed.

Perform and coordinate non-routine mainframe/PC imports, exports and data transfers as needed.

Use the 4th generation language report writer FOCUS to extract data from the Student Information System (SIS+)

Assist campus staff in the use of the Student Data Query System (SDQS) or its replacement. Identify data and reports that could be eliminated by using SDQS or its replacement.

Assist in the distribution of electronic mail to students.

Assist in identifying, analyzing and resolving data and system errors and discrepancies.

Perform special projects and assist with other duties as assigned.

Serve as a backup to other Enrollment Management Systems staff in support of other Enrollment Management departments.

The Data Analyst is responsible for creating, producing and distributing reports as requested by Student Affairs and Enrollment Services departments, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Chancellor's and Provost's office, the general campus community, as well as outside University affiliated agencies. The Office of Student Affairs Information Systems (SAIS) is committed to delivering accurate, prompt, courteous, and consistent service to all departments of Student Affairs and to all constituents of the University, consistent with its educational mission. DOQ budgeted salary range up to $61,230.
Posted Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree and two years of position related experience and/or demonstrated aptitude to learn fourth generation report writing language; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skill in preparing comprehensive and in-depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted data, particularly under tight time constraints

Familiarity with PC based desktop applications, including spreadsheet and database programs such as Word, Access, Excel, etc

Skill in exporting/importing data from or to different software applications or data collection and retrieval.

Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy with internal and external campus community including international visitors.

Demonstrated skill in identifying the correct issues to be communicated, the appropriate audience, the method of communication, and the timing of the communication as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a strong service environment that is subject to constantly changing priorities.

Skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy.

Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.

Skill in setting priorities that accurately reflects the relative importance of job responsibilities.

Demonstrated experience with student information systems.
