Position Purpose

UC Riverside Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Riverside. Our Management and Technology programs assist students, both domestic and international, in today's rapidly-changing business world. We offer courses and certificates in a variety of Business and IT disciplines, as well as post-graduate diplomas in Management, Hospitality Management, Biotechnology Management and Engineering Management. We are seeking a new member for our staff that has enthusiasm for diversity, the drive to connect with local industry and an eagerness for working with international students. The successful candidate will act as a specialist in the coordination and facilitation of curricular practical training and experiential learning for both employers and students. This includes the development of contacts with business, industry, non-profit and government representatives, traveling to off-site locations.

Essential Functions

Employer Outreach 40
Will be responsible for developing new and continuing contacts with business, industry and government representatives in order to establish meaningful work-learn experiences. Contacts employers by phone, mail and electronic methods to cultivate new employer relationships and expand existing ones. As appropriate, will use new methods of Social Media to interact with employers. Attends relevant networking events, community events and trade conferences to meet with employers. Coordinates and arranges for student site visits when appropriate. Works in conjunction with marketing departments within Extension determining appropriate marketing materials for employers (web, electronic and print). Contacts employers regarding student referrals. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of placement activity. Serves as Extension's representative at events, professional meetings and conferences.
Student Counseling 30
Provide internship counseling to eligible students including assessment and placement. Creates and presents orientations and workshops pertaining to curricular practical training. Provides individual counseling on the internship search process, resume writing, interview skills, networking and general employment protocol. Administers and interprets assessment tests as appropriate. Communicates with students regarding all aspects of the internship process via phone, print and electronic methods. Collects weekly observation reports and provides feedback to students throughout their curricular practical training experience.
Community & Professional Development 10
Maintain affiliations with professional associations to benefit our students regarding employment trends and best practices within industries and trades. Builds strong and continuing relationships with the local community to promote services and programming available through UCR Extension and makes referrals as appropriate. Strives to remain current with industry trends and best practices by taking advantage of professional development opportunities when available and approved. Other duties within classification as assigned to assist with the functions required of the Management and Technology department and International Education Programs.
Technology & Reporting 10
Supports the on-going use and development of technology. Utilizes databases to run internship placement campaigns and enhance outreach efforts to the employment community. Becomes proficient in all aspects of database management to track student placement and progress as well as employer opportunities. Uses innovative ways to record data, track data and analyze data. Updates database in a timely manner to keep all data current and factual. Prepares statistical reports when requested to meet the needs of Extension, their partnering institutions and/or employers.
Workshop Leader 10
Leads workshops on resume writing and interview skills. Introduces students to the American education system and American workplace culture. Prepares presentations, leads group discussion and role playing.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Significant experience in career counseling and/or student advisement
Knowledge of career development concepts and effective counseling techniques.
Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with a variety of external constituencies
Proven interpersonal skills to maintain cooperative working relationships with employers, students, faculty and administration.
Knowledge of assessment tools used to facilitate student placement.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must effectively be able to deliver information in a clear, concise and articulate manner to both students and employers.
Demonstrated experience in a customer service environment and/or marketing knowledge.
Ability to work successfully in an environment with the constant succession of inquiries from employers and students, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
Extensive computer skills including database management and knowledge of MS Office.
Knowledgeable with current social media tools and trends such as Skype, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook.
Ability to work independently. Skills in organizing work, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments and follow through.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective job search techniques.
Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
Valid Driver's License.
Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
