Position Purpose

Reporting to and working under general direction of the University Honors Assistant Director of Student Affairs, the University Honors Student Development (UHSD) Coordinator provides appropriate developmental advising and program management, for over 200 University Honors (UH) students. The UHSD Coordinator is responsible for guiding students in meeting their UH responsibilities and commitments. This includes their annual learning contract, successful transition to university academics, development of leadership and team building skills, importance of campus and community service, as well as involvement in undergraduate research, internship, and summer opportunities. The UHSD Coordinator assists students in goal setting, personal growth and reflection, and professional/scholarly development; maintains a regular program and meeting schedule with students; and helps facilitate and monitor their expected progress. This position works closely with the dedicated UH faculty and professors mentoring undergraduate researchers. Additionally, the UHSD Coordinator collaborates with academic advisors in the colleges and departments, UH staff, UH peer mentors, and the UH Faculty Committee to ensure the vision and goals are met for the program, and that the standards for involvement and performance are appropriately measured and maintained at a high level. The UH Coordinator works with a diverse student population.

University Honors (UH) selects participants from high performing incoming first year students, as well as transfer students, and UCR continuing students who meet the admissions requirements. Program enrollment is between 4% and 5% of the undergraduate student population.

Advise University Honors undergraduates using student developmental theory and techniques to enhance both their intellectual experience at UCR, and their personal growth as an individual, member of University Honors, student/graduate of UCR, and citizen of the world. Collaborate with professional academic advisors and the faculty-mentors, who will be advising students regarding departmental and research/capstone requirements. Participate in professional and campus trainings for developmental advising. Advise students and faculty on program requirements for University Honors distinction, meet with students regularly to facilitate and monitor expected progress. Participate in program evaluations, make improvements accordingly. Confirm that students complete requirements for University Honors distinction, support the development of the portfolio process. Identify and advise students with GPA or progress problems and recommend intervention. Evaluate and advise students requesting help with and/or exceptions to UH requirements; obtain agreements of modified requirements to document changes. Respond to inquiries and investigate and resolve problems, serve as a liaison with other departments in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues. Collect necessary data for pertinent evaluation, usage, and retention reports.

Program Development and Management 30
Develop and manage a variety of programs taking in to consideration how they fit with the University Honors mission. Program examples include, but are not limited to Summer University Honors Program (SUHP) orientation for incoming freshmen, Fall Welcome, Peer Mentor selection and training, speaker series programing, co-curricular programing and recruitment efforts.

Review, develop, and implement new procedures and guidelines for handling program processes within the unit, as well as the proper procedure for handling exceptions.

In collaboration with the University Honors management team establish quantitative and qualitative standards for measurement of performance for program; evaluate and use findings to improve the program. Recommend changes in relevant policies. Communicate progress and program needs to supervisor. Draft policy statements upon request.

Collaborate in the preparation, coordination, and submission of intra- and extramural contracts and grants. Research and develop new sources of contract and grant funding.

Collaborate with appropriate staff to ensure that optimal and timely use of allocated funds is consistent with project goals and pertinent regulations.

Serve as a liaison with other departments in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational
issues, as well as program planning aligned with campus-wide events.

Maintain sections of website relevant to programs managed.

Serve on campus wide planning committees representing University Honors

Assist in supporting University Honors and Undergraduate Education projects and reports. Provide backup to other UH staff and in their absence. Engage students in academic and professional development activities. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
