Position requires flexible work hours and is "on-call" on a 24/7 basis to assist with problems or emergencies related to KUCR operation, security and continuity. Compensatory time is provided as appropriate. Total hours per week not to exceed 40.

Position Purpose

KUCR 88.3fm is UC Riveriside's FCC-licensed, class-A, award-winning student-oriented radio station. Launched in 1966, it now broadcasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It operates within studios on the campus and has remote transmitting facilities on the Box Springs Mountains. It has a large diverse student volunteer staff, a small core professional staff, and its variety of programming is heard in western Riverside and San Bernardino counties, as well as online and via mobile devices. In additional to it's broadcast mission, KUCR produces, or co-produces, numerous live events on campus and within the local community. KUCR is part of UCR's Division of Student Affairs.

Under the direction of the KUCR Director/General Manager, this position will assist in the operation of the UCR campus radio station by facilitating and overseeing the maintenance, legal compliance, continuity of programming, coordination of student participation, event planning, training of staff, station promotion and public awareness, FCC compliance and record-keeping, oversight and participation in KUCR public appearances and events, oversight and participation in program production, preparation and broadcasting, publications, preservation of KUCR property and security, and more.

At the direction of the KUCR Director/General Manager:

a) Supervise and assist KUCR student participants in the coordination and scheduling of KUCR programs, meetings, reviewing student applications, interviews, conflict resolution, etc. in the maintenance of the good order and continuity of KUCR's operation. To act, whenever and wherever necessary and by whatever means are necessary to discontinue, edit, or prevent any broadcast or action which may discredit or defame the University of California Riverside, or present any legal or financial liability to the institution.
b) Act to maintain station and staff compliance with Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations, KUCR internal staff policies, University of California policies and procedures.
c) Oversee the KUCR Music Department and supervise its student sub-department heads with duties including, but not limited to, the acquisition, receipt, review, recording, cataloging, monitoring and securing the KUCR library of recordings, physical and digital, which is in excess of 40,000 titles.
d) Provide a range of broadcast production and programming function s, including, but not limited to music, news and public affairs programming, production and facilitation thereof, the assembly and preparation of pre-recorded materials, remote broadcasts, etc.
e) Oversee the programming and operation of KUCR's automated broadcast functions.
f) Assist in the organization, development and execution of KUCR live events which may take place on campus or within the community. This may include DJ performances, lectures, musical performances, and the like.
g) Oversee the scheduling and production of ISDN studio projects with outside broadcasters, such as NPR, BBC, CBC, APM, etc.
h) Participate in KUCR productions via the utilization of studio equipment, computers and digital editing software.
i) Oversee the KUCR EAS system in assuring its operation, logging and maintenance are in compliance and good working order.

a) Provide oversight and general assistance in the adminstration and operation of a large and diverse UCR student participant staff, which is typically in excess of 100 students annually.
b) Facilitate student participation in a a multi-dimensional immersive, participatory, creative, communicative, social, cultural and expressive experience.
c) Facilitate student awareness of art and culture by introducing them to music of many different styles from around the world.
d) Facilitate student introduction to a muilti-faceted media organization which provides live and pre-produced program content to campus and broader community.
e) Introduce students to concepts of professionalism, teamwork cooperation in order to accomplish a goal.
f) Provide feedback, observations and constructive criticism to students regarding their performance in various contexts.
g) Assist in the provision of introductory, intermediate and advanced KUCR student participant training.
h) Provide operational assistance to student staff in the conduct of their duties and functions within KUCR.
i) Provide editorial oversight of student contributions to KUCR publications and website.
Administrative assistance to KUCR Director/General Manager 10
At the KUCR Director/General Manager's direction, the KUCR Assistant Manager will:

a) Direct station operations in the absence of the Director/General Manager.
b) Oversee all professional and student staff in the absence of the Director/General Manager
c) Represent KUCR officially to campus administration, students, community and governmental officials, in the absence of the Director/General Manager.
d) Handle emergency situations, including local, state and national emergencies with respect to KUCR communications functions.
e) Provision of content and design for KUCR print and web publications.
f) Clerical work related to logging, record keeping, etc.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirement Display Ranking

Bachelor's degree from accredited institution or equivalent education and experience combination.

Good Working knowledge of broadcasting and production, practices, methods and techniques. At least 10 years experience.

5 years experience within college/university broadcasting, with demonstrated knowledge of student culture and the practice of broadcasting on a college campus.

Demonstrated ability to interact with a wide diversity of students, faculty, administration and community members in the course of daily business, with respect, diplomacy, and good "people skills."

Demonstrated operational knowledge of broadcast equipment, including mixing boards, media players, microphones, etc. Detailed operational knowledge of broadcast EAS (emergency alert system) required. Good operational facility with media production software, such as Audition, Wavelab, Logic, etc. required. Demonstrated knowledge of ISDN studio productions. At least 5 years experience.

Strong knowledge of contemporary music (as per CMJ -- College Media Journal), current trends, etc. Strong general knowledge of music generally.
