Position Purpose

Provide leadership and coordination in design, organization, development, implementation, marketing and evaluation of centralized, comprehensive, innovative programs and services that facilitate student health and wellness. Manage and provide overall direction and support to the WELL (Wellbeing, Empowerment, Life & Learning) whose functions include: coordination and support of student affairs division peer mentor programs, health education programming, mental health programming and active partnership and integration of wellness efforts by key partners - Student Health, Counseling Center, Recreation Center, Housing, Dining & Residential Services and Graduate Division. Supervises 4.0 FTE and many casual and student assistants, including hiring, training, evaluation, and corrective action as needed. Oversee departmental operating budgets of approximately $300,000 involving multiple fund sources and types of funds.

Program Management 45
A. Play a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC Riverside that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. Includes development of the WELL Center, and collaboration with partners' departments to insure promotion and expansion of the existing Student Wellness Partner efforts.

B. Manage and provide overall direction and support to the WELL (Wellbeing, Empowerment, Life & Learning) Center. Identify strategies for peer education/mentor, health education, mental health outreach and partner departments to work more collaboratively, in order to enhance training and programming efforts, as well as to unify efforts for a broader and more effective impact on campus.

C. Serve as an advocate, mentor and role model in support of mental health/healthier campus climate and wellness for students and other members of the campus community.

D. Adopt various approaches to engaging students in the development and expansion of the WELL, including formation of student and/or faculty advisory groups, engagement of student peer wellness workers, and support for student-initiated wellness programs.

E. Assess mental health and healthier campus climate needs and interests of UCR students and collaborate with Student Wellness Partners and student affairs colleagues, academic affairs colleagues, and student leadership to develop short and long term strategic goals to meet these needs.

F. Collaborate with primary partners to expand existing mental health/healthier campus climate and wellness programming to include access by all students with the goal that every student will graduate from UC Riverside having participated in wellness programs and education, and with the knowledge and ability to continue wellness practices after graduation. Strive to make UC Riverside a national leader in student wellness.

G. Research assessment instruments and evaluation methodologies to help guide the development of evaluation strategies for peer education/mentor programs, health education, and mental health/healthier campus climate and wellness programs and services. Evaluate program effectiveness on an ongoing basis, using appropriate assessment tools.

H. Work with Student Affairs Communication and Coordinators and partners to develop marketing for currently and newly designed Student Wellness Partner and WELL initiatives.

I. Identify and apply best practices in on-line student wellness programs; oversee the development of a consolidated cluster-wide student wellness website and other on-line and interactive wellness support methods. Work with Student Affairs Technology, Coordinators and partners to co-develop and utilize appropriate technology to create a wide variety of resources and programs for faculty, staff and students.

J. Coordinate required reporting on campus implementation of mental health/healthier campus climate initiative as requested by the University of California Office of the President and system-wide mental health advisory committee.

A. Supervise 4.0 FTE and many casual and student assistants, including hiring, training, evaluation, and corrective action as needed.
B. Develop, encourage, promote, and monitor professional growth and staff development of professional and student staff at all levels.
C. Foster a collegial atmosphere among the center staff and between the staff and various other campus departments and constituents.
D. Develop and communicate performance and evaluation standards for staff at all levels.
E. Ensure compliance with university personnel policies and regulations.
Liaison 15
A. Work with students, administrators, staff and faculty to build consensus as to the most effective way to support successful student mental health and healthier campus climate.
B. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with mental health/healthier campus climate partners, both internal and external to the University.
Budget and Fiscal Management 15
A. Oversee departmental operating budgets of approximately $300,000 involving multiple fund sources and types of funds.
B. Work closely with Coordinators, to establish budget priorities that are consistent with campus, divisional, and departmental goals and objectives.
C. Interpret and apply University policies to insure appropriate use of funds.
D. Research and develop new sources of grant funding to augment resources available to departments and to fund new initiatives.
E. On an annual basis, prepare and present a budget request to the Registration Fee Committee.

A. Provide counsel and advice to students on a confidential basis in order to assist them in solving personal, educational and administrative problems.
B. Serve on or chair campus and system-wide committees or ad hoc task forces.
C. Pursue continued professional education to enhance skills and to keep abreast of current issues and practices that are pertinent to mental health/healthier campus climate and wellness in the student population.

Posted Minimum Requirements
1. Bachelor's Degree in Student Affairs, Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, or other related field and significant related professional experience as a unit manager/lead of a student affairs function or equivalent.
2. Strong knowledge and practical experience with development and implementation of holistic wellness programs.
3. Outstanding leadership and communication skills, including public speaking, presentations and written communication.
4. Demonstrated experience in program development and success with planning, organization, delegating and monitoring work activities.
5. Proven ability to prepare and manage a budget, make realistic and equitable fiscal decisions, and prepare cogent budgetary and annual reports.
6. Experience working with a diverse population, demonstrated multicultural competency and ability to integrate unique needs and concerns of multicultural populations into health and wellness education efforts.
7. Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with students, staff, faculty, unit heads, administration, parents, and the academic community.
8. Proven ability to be collaborative and to involve others in decision making.
9. Strong knowledge of the social, psychological and physical development stages of students, and knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of student development and learning theory.
10. Demonstrated ability to build healthy communities of wellbeing in the workplace and within the university community at large.
