Position Purpose
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost, the Director of Student Success Programs in the Office of Undergraduate Education (UE) (1) develops and implements educational programs to benefit UC students, (2) leads campus-wide Undergraduate Research programs, (3) contributes to the unit's grant activity, and (4) contributes to UE research and program evaluation. The Director will collaborate with the colleges' associate deans, student affairs managers, academic advisors, and other campus colleagues to develop high-impact academic experiences and student success initiatives, such as learning communities, upper-division capstones, and academically-enriched internships. The Director will provide leadership and strategic direction for campus-wide Undergraduate Research activities, including the symposium, journal, quarterly grants, Undergraduate Research in the Community (UGRC), and the Chancellor's Research Fellowship. The Director will assist in the identification of appropriate grant opportunities, assist in writing and submitting proposals, and help administer grants that are awarded. The Director will assist in utilizing research and program evaluation to guide decision-making about program development and resource allocation. The Director will supervise 0.75 FTE Program Coordinator (SAO II) and 1.0 FTE Program Assistant (AA III). |

Work with colleges, academic departments, and campus partners to develop and implement high-impact academic experiences and student success initiatives, such as learning communities, upper-division capstones, and academically-enriched internships.
Provide campus-wide leadership in the development and implementation Undergraduate Research programs. Collaborate with the colleges' associate deans, student affairs managers, academic advisors, and other colleagues to increase student participation in undergraduate research, to identify faculty mentor and research opportunities, and to coordinate outreach activities. Coordinate annual Symposium and Journal, quarterly undergraduate research mini-grants, and Chancellor's Research Fellowship; responsibilities include call for proposals/applications, outreach activities, coordination of faculty, staff, and student committee(s) to review abstracts and submissions, oversight of logistics (e.g., room reservations, printing) and budget, coordination of workshops, and receipt of final reports. Design and facilitate workshops and online resources for students to learn about the preparation of a research or creative activity/design proposal, presentation, or journal submission. Facilitate student participation in off-campus undergraduate research conferences, e.g., Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR). Research and develop online Undergraduate Research Tracking System. Coordinate annual Honors Convocation to recognize undergraduate student excellence and academic achievement, in close collaboration with the colleges' associate deans, student affairs managers, academic advisors, and other colleagues. Oversee student awards, logistics, and budget for Honors Convocation. Convene campus-wide committees, such as the First Year Workgroup or Capstone Initiative Steering Committee, that regularly bring together key partners to discuss students success, program coordination across colleges, incorporation of Student Affairs, implementation of best practices, resolution of concerns and problems, and assessment of program effectiveness. Develop and implement program grants to foster student success and faculty innovation, such as faculty instructional innovation grants and capstone grants. Coordinate call for proposals, facilitate proposal review, oversee budget, and receive final reports. Provide oversight to the UCDC, UC Sacramento and iEval programs which includes supervision of a 0.75 FTE Program Coordinator (SAO II). Consult with University Honors Program and other UE units to increase student applications for external research awards and fellowships, and graduate school. Participate in UE, campus-, and UC-wide committees related to student success. |

Write annual Undergraduate Research Tracking report. Collect and analyze data related to undergraduate research participation and opportunities on campus, including implementation of "zero credit" undergraduate research course and undergraduate research registry. Maintain knowledge of current research and best practices, review and analyze literature focused on high-impact academic experiences and student success programs. Prepare and disseminate program evaluation findings on UE student success and undergraduate research, such as conference presentations and journal-style articles. |

Master's Degree and five years experience of increasing responsibility in a student success program for an institution in higher education, or equivalent combination of both.
Administrative/Management Experience: Management experience in coordinating activities by determining the time, place and sequence of actions to be taken and providing results; experience in identifying, writing and managing projects; knowledge of applicable policies and procedures, and ability to analyze policy issues and form solid recommendations.
