Position Purpose

The out-of-state recruitment creative writer will write for a prospective and admitted out-of-state student audience for the purpose of affecting change that positively impacts out-of-state student enrollment and retention results. The out-of-state recruitment creative writer will be responsible for generating the content that accompanies marketing visuals. The writer will work alongside the Student Affairs Marketing and Communications creative team, Undergraduate Admissions, and other campus stakeholders to create compelling content and strong calls-to-action to recruit out-of-state student and parent audiences to choose UC Riverside.

The out-of-state recruitment creative writer will also support, reinforce, and continue to build the UC Riverside brand through the deployment of web, print, social and virtual media to students throughout the United States.

Research, write, edit, and produce original compelling content for campaign and marketing materials, web, electronic, smartphone, social media, print materials, and other mediums for the purpose of recruiting and retaining out-of-state students.
Interface with multiple clients to interpret and communicate via the written word, complex marketing and campaign concepts for out-of-state markets, using print and electronic design to support out-of-state recruitment and retention initiatives.
Establish content themes and general direction for talking points and messaging.
Work with stakeholders to define goals and workflow processes for authoring, approving, and publishing content.
Ensure that the content you write is truthful and complies with the policies of the university.
Continuously monitor campaign effectiveness.
Learn about and implement emerging web, electronic and social media copywriting standards and apply those standards to workflow.
Adhere to University and department brand identity requirements.
Update and revise print and electronic materials as needed.

Research, understand, and write to the needs and perceptions of out-of-state students and their parents who will consider choosing to study at an Inland Southern California university. Produce meaningful messages and content about UC Riverside to compel them to put UC Riverside at the top of their choice list.
Research and identify what our target audiences do, think, believe and why. Assess their preferences and provide such information and findings to out-of-state marketing team for use in materials. Incorporate your research and findings into your writing as appropriate.
Design research methods such as interviews and questionnaires.
Research and learn about clients' needs to create content solutions that address objectives and user needs.

We are looking for a creative writer to join our well-established and growing interactive team of creative writers, web and graphic designers. You'll be part of a team that supports more than 40 departments in the division of Student Affairs. We focus on all aspects of student life---from consideration, to application, to graduation and beyond, Student Affairs Marketing and Communications creates the messaging and visual campaigns that put UCR top-of-mind to local, regional, national and international audiences around the world. As a creative writer in our department, you'll will work locally but think nationally, since the audiences you'll be writing to students from all over the country. You will write compelling copy and headlines for a variety of print and electronic marketing pieces. You'll express your ideas clearly and convincingly. You'll be able to listen to, intelligently challenge, and improve upon the ideas of others. Your outstanding content will be used on print, web, electronic media, and video materials that out-of-state students use when deciding which universities to consider. Posted Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Marketing, Communications or related field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

5 years experience writing for web, mobile, and print writing in an advertising agency, digital design firm, or advertising/marketing environment.

Ability to develop and deploy complex, multi-part campaigns and projects for international markets.

Excellent organization and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and to adjust to frequent changes in project priorities.

Expert ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally with team members, clients, and vendors, as well as the ability to present concepts to groups in a formal setting.

Expert grammar, editing, listening, research, and creative writing skills.

Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromise.

A desire to be challenged daily and work in a fast-paced and highly motivated team environment.

Solid knowledge of creative writing for web, print, and social media required, as well as an ability to understand and contribute new ideas to improve visual and web content.

Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.

Skilled in Mac platform, Microsoft Office Suite, Powerpoint, Excel, Text Edit.

Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to deliver work that is considered innovative and well beyond the standard.

Ability to take direction, constructive criticism, and to be tactful when critiquing the work of others.
