Position Purpose

To assist with sample collecting and processing, data organization and analysis, and general lab activities. Candidate will perform general molecular laboratory functions including DNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis and sequencing analysis. Candidate will process field samples including arthropod identification, and assisting lab personnel with field collections and behavioral observations. Position will be limited with possibility of becoming career, 50-100% appointment based on research needs.

Conduct general lab activities
Conduct general molecular analyses, including DNA extractions, PCR, microsatellites, gel electrophoresis and sequencing analysis.
Process field samples including arthropod identification using morphological and molecular methods
Field collections and observations 25
Assist with sample collection and processing, data organization and general lab activities.
Assist lab personnel with field and behavioral observations

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirement Display Ranking

Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and three years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in ecological or environmental sciences and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Experience identifying and collecting plant and arthropod samples, including recognition of arthropod life stages

Demonstrated knowledge and application of laboratory safety procedures and regulations

Demonstrated experience using standard laboratory equipment
  5
Demonstrated knowledge of and competency using MS Word and Excel
