Position Purpose
Under general direction, Urgent Care Physicians will be responsible for both direct patient care and for other administrative duties as designated by the Medical Director. In this position you will examine, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages for acute injuries, infections, and illnesses. You will counsel and educate patients and families about acute and chronic conditions, medical concerns, or health wellness. In addition, you will provide direction to clinical staff; and may instruct and educate trainees and/ or staff. This is a Per Diem appointment. Per Diem Physicians are hourly paid appointees whose primary purpose is clinical service. These appointments have a variable schedule and cannot exceed 43%. These appointments may be on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis as determined by the University. Monday through Friday shifts are 12 hour shifts and weekends are 8 hour shifts. This position's primary work location will be at MedPost Urgent Care in La Quinta, California; however, may be assigned to assist in affiliate facilities. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience. |

Physician's engage in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to: 1. Adhering to the highest standards of medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times. 2. Formulating diagnostic and treatment plans. Prescribing or administering treatment, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury. 3. Ordering and interpreting lab/imaging tests and analyzing records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditions. 4. Completing all documentation and paperwork in a timely manner within the electronic medical record to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. 5. Possible instruction of residents, interns, and students in a designated specialized medical service. 6. Documenting items such as: appropriate chief complaint, past medical, family, and social history, review of systems, examination, medications, allergies, assessment and plan. |

Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Medical Board; ABMS Board-Certification in Family Medicine; Active and unrestricted medical license in California; Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Strong background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care; Advanced communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities; Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice; Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. |
