Position Purpose

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Constituent Development and in close collaboration with the Dean of the Graduate School of Education, the incumbent is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of a development and fund raising program that will result in the generation of private support including corporate, foundation, and individual major gifts for program initiatives of the Graduate School of Education. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

Plan, direct, monitor and coordinate the general fund raising and major gift development program including foundation relations, corporate relations and individuals for the Graduate School of Education.

Develop and oversee the planning, organization and implementation of prospect cultivation for assigned programs and priorities of the campus and those set by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development and the Senior Executive Director of Development.

Direct the planning of strategies and tactics for donor solicitation by appropriate volunteers and academic leaders. Provide consultation and direction to individual faculty in planning and marketing specific research and educational programs to specific funding sources.

Develop detailed gift opportunities tailored to the interest of potential major donors, consistent with established needs and priorities of the Graduate School of Education.

Prepare written proposals and/or other special materials for use during donor cultivation and solicitation.

Assist in establishing community members on advisory boards for various campus programs as appropriate.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Stewardship 15
Devise and oversee the implementation of methods for recognizing and maintaining regular contact with past donors. Encourage the active participation of major donors and volunteers to ensure their constant awareness of current needs and objectives.

Develop and maintain the campus' ties to the community and business, government, and philanthropic sectors on a local, state, national and (when appropriate) global basis.
Volunteer Management 10
Direct the organization, planning and implementation of volunteer committees or groups as may be appropriate and necessary to meet established fund raising objectives.

Enlist the involvement of the faculty, the Dean and other senior UCR administrators in their contact with volunteers and prospective donors.

Organize and direct donor solicitation involving key volunteers and academic leaders and participate in major donor solicitations as appropriate.

Posted Minimum Requirements
-Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

-Three to five years of experience in fundraising programs and proven success in raising major gifts. Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including cultivation, stewardship and donor recognition.

-Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.

-Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fund raising, preferably within a major research university environment. Experience and skill in directing a complex development program within a major university.

-Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design and implement a development program. Ability to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.

-Ability to work effectively with other advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs.
-Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fund raising.

-Understanding of University Advancement functions with an ability to coordinate and integrate fundraising efforts with alumni, media relations, and marketing professionals within advancement.
