Position Purpose

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Constituent Development, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of a fund raising program that will result in the generation of private major gift support from corporations, foundations, and individuals for program initiatives of the Bourns College of Engineering. This is a two year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

Write, implement, monitor and evaluate an annual work plan to include at least 4-5 major goals, measurable objectives and methods to evaluate outcomes to achieve private support for the Bourns College of Engineering. Plan approved by immediate supervisor and Dean/Administrator of the Bourns College of Engineering.

Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a "moves management" system with qualified major gift prospects/donors to meet the current productivity standards for face-to-face visits and actions. Enter prospect/donor data and individualized major gift strategy plans into the centralized software system in a timely manner.

Direct prospect identification and research, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for assigned individuals, foundations and corporations to achieve and maintain a caseload of at least 125 names.

Work strategically with the Dean/lead administrator, department chairs, faculty and staff in the Bourns College of Engineering to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects/donors for major gifts. Maintain ongoing communication with all staff to inform of activities.

Develop detailed gift opportunities tailored to the interests of potential major gift prospects/donors consistent with the needs and priorities of the Bourns College of Engineering.

Work closely with the Dean/Lead administrator in the Bourns College of Engineering and/or designated staff to plan, implement, support and evaluate volunteer committees/groups as appropriate and necessary to meet established fundraising objectives.

Provide consultation and direction to the Dean/lead administrator in planning and marketing research and educational programs to specific funding sources.

Work with centralized annual giving staff to plan, monitor and evaluate an annual giving program to support the Bourns College of Engineering.

Work with centralized strategic communications staff to implement approved key UCR and the Bourns College of Engineering messages to internal/external constituencies as part of the fundraising process.

Prepare written proposals and/or other special materials for use during prospect/donor cultivation and solicitation. Work closely with the Dept. of Foundation/Corporate Relations as needed on all proposals to foundations and corporations.

Work closely with staff in the Planned Giving Dept. before discussing any estate giving opportunities with prospects/donors.

Organize and direct donor solicitation involving key volunteers and academic leaders and participate in major donor solicitations as appropriate.

Work cooperatively with centralized advancement/development staff in departments to include, but not limited to, gift processing, prospect/donor research, data management and stewardship/donor relations.

To ensure donor retention, devise and oversee the implementation of personalized methods for recognizing and maintaining ongoing contact with current/past donors. Encourage the active participation of major donors and volunteers to ensure their constant awareness of current needs and objectives.

Monitor available budgetary resources to support fundraising strategies.

Participate in group staff meetings and individual meetings with immediate supervisor.

Supervise additional development staff as assigned such as Director of Development and Administrative Assistant.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Posted Minimum Requirements
-Bachelor's degree in a related field. Proven track record in advancement management and major gift fundraising, with a minimum of seven years directly relevant professional experience

-Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and enhance relationships with alumni, students, volunteers, faculty, staff, senior university officials and the general public. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-Skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and corporations in all gift ranges required.

-Good judgment and discretion in the handling and maintenance of confidential donor information required. Self-starter who works independently and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

-Experience cultivating and soliciting individuals, particularly at the major gift level. Prior experience in capital campaign setting and in annual fund and major gift solicitation strategies.

-Outstanding organizational skills and proficiency in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner and on deadline.

-Experience in successful relationship building with prospects, volunteers and advisory board members.

-Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fundraising in general and in particular as it applies to UCR.

-Ability to travel as needed in Southern California region and sometimes out of state to visit with prospects/donors to implement qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship actions. Ability to work a flexed schedule to include some evening/weekend work as needed.

-Working knowledge of complex databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, Raiser's Edge, and PowerPoint.
