Position Purpose

The Clinical Social Worker will provide services to patients referred to the stuttering program, and may provide other services related to mental health. Other duties and responsibilities may include: screening for mental health and substance abuse problems; provide brief motivational interventions and psychoeducation for patients; Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, assessment of high risk behaviors, crisis intervention and brief treatment services and intensive case management to patients who are in need.

The position's primary work location will be at the UCR Health Clinic in Orange County and may be asked to work in affiliate facilities in Riverside. In this per diem capacity, it is expected this position be scheduled 4 to 8 hour shift once a week and may include Saturday shifts. The hours may increase as the clinic grows.

1. Provides mental health counseling to individuals, groups and/or families.
2. In collaboration with a psychiatrist determine case disposition when psychiatric hospitalization and/or medication are needed.
3. Conducts initial assessments, and communicates with teams.
4. Refers clients to appropriate community or private resources as needed.
5. Provides crisis intervention as needed.
6. Assures maintenance of all case files and other records in strict compliance with policy, regulation, and procedure.
7. Coordinates treatment planning and maintains ongoing contact with outpatient providers for continuing care of patient.
8. Evaluate and interpret the psychosocial aspects of mental and emotional disturbances to families and other health professionals, as required.
9. Participate in program evaluation and in determine the needs for new services.
10. Provide consultation to and maintain liaison with campus/community programs; and may provide teaching, supervision, consultation and in-service training to residents, students, and staff.
11. Actively participates in ongoing training as needed to meet all certification standards and credentialing policies.

Minimum Requirements

Possession of an active license as a clinical social worker from the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners and the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  3
A minimum of two years of experience working as a Social Worker.

Candidate needs to be sufficiently computer literate to efficiently document using word processing programs and the electronic medical record.

Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
  6
Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities.
  7
Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice.

Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others.

The candidate will be placed at a flat rate per/hr in accordance with the methodology as defined in the collective bargaining agreement. The proposed title code for this position is covered under the Residual Patient Care Professional Unit Contract (HX).
