Must be able to work M-F 9 am-6 pm (or 9:30 am-6 pm). Must be able to work flexible hours for staffing in backup situations - days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position is not an ongoing position, as it is established and funded for 18 months.

Contemporary office equipment including but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, fax, scanner, copy machine and 10-key. Integrated Library Systems and laser scanners for automated local circulation system. Ability to use cash register.

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Head of Collection Maintenance, the incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining the workflow for the Google Books and Federal Document archive projects. This includes monitoring student hours and work to ensure items are correctly prepared for the monthly shipments, create or update item records and add bar codes as needed, search for items students could not locate, and update and maintain all spreadsheets, lists and documentation related to the projects. The incumbent performs work independently and uses paraprofessional and advanced operational and technical skills involving a general knowledge of library practices and procedures. The incumbent also assists in training, scheduling and evaluating student assistants; assists in directing student assistants in maintaining an efficient workflow for the Collection Maintenance Unit.

Maintains current knowledge of all Google Books and Fed Doc procedures and policies.

Maintains knowledge of Library of Congress, Superintendent of Documents (SuDocs), and Water Resources Collections and Archives (WRCA) classification systems.

Regularly updates the status of items and runs lists using the Integrated Library System (ILS).

Assists in maintaining and processing statistics. Gathers and compiles statistics for special projects.

Regularly updates spreadsheets, lists, and other documentation related to the project.

Assists in organizing and maintaining the accuracy of items in the stacks. This includes assisting with maintenance of item records and online barcode records.

Monitors the project processing areas in Rivera Library and the Orbach Science Library to ensure they remain organized and all equipment and areas are correctly labelled.

Responsible for routing items in need of repair or call number label replacement to appropriate staff.

Assists in processing problem items, such as items without item records, repair, or mis-labeled items.

Responsible for shelving of materials in the stacks, Government Documents, WRCA, and WRCA Special Collections.

Oversees student employees working on the Google Books and FedDoc projects, including training, monitoring work, checking for completion of assigned tasks, scheduling changes, and minor discipline issues. Reports problems to Unit Head.

Monitors student assistants on safety issues while working.
Access Services Duties 10
Anticipates patron approach and provides accurate and courteous service to all patrons according to Access Services Public Service Guidelines.

Maintains general knowledge of the UCR Library and campus in order to answer patron questions and assure the proper referral of patrons.

Maintains confidentiality of records as required by Library and University policy.

Writes and distributes Security Reports as required.

Monitors Stacks areas and makes recommendations for workflow. Assists in maintaining shelves in excellent order.

Participates and assists in planning unit projects, such as measurement, error rate, and shifting.

Participates in staff meetings and committees.

Serves as Building Emergency Staff for the Rivera Library, responding to emergency situations in accordance with established procedures. Interprets and is able to carry out library and campus-wide safety/emergency policies and procedures should the need occur. Reports safety and security hazards to the Unit Head.
