Position Purpose

Under the general direction of the Unit Head for Records, Authority and Metadata Management, catalog Distinctive Collections materials (including Water Resources Collections & Archives, Eaton science fiction and fantasy, government documents, Special Collections, manuscripts, Inland Empire Memories, digitized resources, maps, and foreign language materials), with or without copy. Catalog all formats including print, online, and audiovisual. When necessary, construct and input original cataloging records in Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) according to Resource Description and Access (RDA). Upgrade existing copy as needed. Create and check subjects, names, titles, call numbers, and description. Work with the receipt, distribution, cataloging, and labeling/processing of federal depository and international government publications, and other government publications as assigned. Assist with other departmental responsibilities as needed. Identify and refer questions and problems to supervisor.

Catalog Water Resources Collection & Archives material with or without copy 30
1. Search Integrated Library System (ILS) / Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) for copy. If no copy is found, create original record in OCLC database and import into local ILS.

2. Create bibliographic description according to Resource Description and Access (RDA).

3. Assign and construct all headings according to RDA and Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) program.

4. Assign and construct all subjects according to Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Subject Headings Manual (SHM), and RDA.

5. Assign and construct all call numbers according to Library of Congress Classification Schedules (LCCS), Classification and Shelf-listing Manual (CSM), and subject analysis.

6. Import or replace bibliographic records from OCLC to local ILS as needed.

7. Determine if bibliographic record is complete and accurate; add lacking information as necessary to complete record. Verify all headings.

8. Submit monthly statistics.
Catalog other Distinctive and Special Collections materials 30
1. Perform copy and original cataloging of Special Collections, and other Distinctive collections including Inland Empire Memories and map materials according to RDA, NACO, LCSH, SHM, LCCS, CSM, OCLC, and local standards. Verify headings and numbers.

2. Assist in the original cataloging of manuscripts according to national standards, including DCRM (Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books) and RDA, and local standards. Consult the British Library's Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts online glossary.

3. Assist metadata librarians in metadata projects. Assign metadata to digital collections. Use various established, evolving, and local metadata schema and standards.

4. Submit monthly statistics.
Catalog Eaton science fiction and fantasy materials, with or without copy 20
1. Perform copy and original cataloging of Eaton science fiction and fantasy materials according to RDA, NACO, LCSH, SHM, LCCS, CSM, OCLC, and local standards. Verify headings and numbers.

2. Insure complex series and trilogies are correct and consistent.

3. Add headings for illustrators and artists as needed.

4. Consult with other Eaton catalogers and Special Collections staff to resolve problems, such as editions, duplicates, and title conflicts.

5. Submit monthly statistics.
Other Duties as assigned 10
1. Assist with various clean-up projects, as needed.

2. Assist with other departmental projects, as needed.
Catalog and Process Print Government Publications material with or without copy 10
1. Assist with receiving, sorting, and distributing government publications issued by state, international, United Nations (UN), local, and legal publishers according to guidelines.

2. As needed, stamp depository material according to guidelines.

3. Perform copy and original cataloging of GPO, California State, international, UN, and legal publishers according to RDA, NACO, LCSH, SHM, LCCS, CSM, OCLC, and local standards. Verify headings and numbers.

4. Assists with labeling and processing of material.

5. Submit monthly statistics.
