Must be able to work Mon - Fri 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m; hours may vary. Must be able to work flexible hours for staffing in backup situations - days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Will be required to perform work at any campus library and travel between libraries on a daily basis.

Contemporary office equipment including but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, printer, scanner and copy machine. As well as other library equipment such as the Integrated Library Management System, barcode readers, microfilm/fiche readers, and label and barcode printers.

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Head of Collection Maintenance, Collection Maintenance Stack Shift Project Monitor is responsible for monitoring and providing coordination where appropriate for all aspects of the large-scale one-time shift projects in the library stacks; performs work independently and uses paraprofessional and advanced operational and technical skills involving a general knowledge of library practices and procedures; assists in directing student assistants in maintaining an efficient workflow for the Collection Maintenance Unit; responsible for providing assistance and administering public service functions and transactions to a wide variety of patrons at the Circulation/Reserves Desk. The incumbent's primary responsibilities and tasks will be at the Rivera Library, but will also be have responsibilities in the Orbach Library.

NOTE: This position is not an ongoing appointment; it is established and funded for 18 months or less due to funding.

Technical and Individual Duties for Shifting Projects 70
Monitors and helps coordinate the large-scale one-time shifting projects in campus libraries on a temporary basis. This includes ensuring that locations are updated in the Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS) and labels are corrected as needed.

Maintains current knowledge of all Collection Maintenance procedures and policies.

Monitors stacks in areas being shifted and makes recommendations for workflow. Assists in maintaining shelves being shifted in excellent order.

Maintains knowledge of Library of Congress, Superintendent of Documents (SuDocs), and Water Resources Collections and Archives (WRCA) classification systems.

Ensures that library shifting standards have been followed by all students. Addresses errors/concerns with students and informs Unit Head. Provides additional instruction/demonstration to students as needed.

Evaluates daily and weekly need for student hours needed for shifting projects, informs Unit Head and/or adjusts student assistant task assignments as needed.

Ensures deadlines and objectives for shifting projects are met.

Updates all range guides in shifted areas on a regular basis.

Gathers and compiles statistics for shifting projects.

Monitors the student task log on a daily basis and reports concerns such as students not logging all tasks, taking extended breaks, etc. to the Unit Head.

Monitors the department blog on a daily basis and ensures all student have read the posts. Reports issues to the Unit Head.

Assists with overseeing of student employees, including training on all Collection Maintenance policies and tasks, assigning tasks, updating schedule changes on the student calendar, and minor discipline issues. Reports problems to Unit Head.

Monitors and addresses student assistant safety issues/concerns.
Collection Maintenance Duties 15
Assists in performing general Collection Maintenance functions, such as paging materials, shelving, shifting, and shelf reading.

Assists in organizing and maintaining the accuracy of items in areas in the stacks. This includes assisting with maintenance and creation of item records.

Assists in maintaining a goal of a 72 hour turnaround shelving time.

Provides public service assistance regarding shelving of materials as needed.

Assists in maintaining and processing statistics.
Access Services Public Service Duties 10
Staffs the Circulation Desk as scheduled. May be scheduled to cover the Circulation Desk at any campus library.

Maintains current knowledge of all Circulation Desk functions and procedures and performs these duties accurately.

Promptly assists all patrons at the Circulation Desk and provides accurate and courteous service according to Access Services Public Service Guidelines.

Maintains general knowledge of the UCR Library and campus in order to answer patron questions and assure the proper referral of patrons.

Uses the library ILMS and campus student/staff account database (ex. Banner) to determine the status of, or information about, patrons.

Maintains confidentiality of records as required by Library and University policy.

Operates building alarm and public announcement (PA) system and reports and correct problems associated with their use.

Accurately logs Access Services statistics on appropriate forms.

Writes and distributes Security Reports as required.

Participates in staff meetings and committees.

Serves as Building Emergency Staff for the Rivera Library, responding to emergency situations in accordance with established procedures. Serves as an Alt-Building Supervisor for Emergency Conditions if a BSEC is unavailable. Interprets and is able to carry out library and campus-wide safety/emergency policies and procedures should the need occur. Reports safety and security hazards to the Unit Head.

Acts as backup staff member in emergency staffing situations.

Monitors relevant mailing lists, department blog and other formal communication mechanisms.
