Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the director of epilepsy and clinic manager, the EEG Technologist provides expertise required for electroencephalograph testing, telemetry testing, evoked potential testing, brain map testing and surgical monitoring. Also provides long term video EEG monitoring, spinal cord monitoring and corticography. Assists with the instruction and education of EEG Technologists, students and in-house staff. Assists in a variety of duties, including. scheduling patients, ordering supplies and completing test result data. Able to monitor IOM cases or willing to learn intra-operative monitoring, which may include functional cortical mapping, WADA monitoring, ABR, facial nerve, EMG, SSEP, and all other modalities included in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. All delivered in a patient centric environment.

This is a per diem position. Current time demand is 4 to 8 hours per month with plans for expansion and increased hours within the next year. The primary practice setting is out-patient with future in-patient duties.

Please note: The proposed classification title code for this position is covered under the AFSCME Patient Care Technical Unit Contract (EX) and is pending review and approval. A flat hourly rate of $37.59 is anticipated for this per diem position.

Patient Testing 50
1. Effectively performs specialized tests and/or procedures, such as EEG, EVP, WADA, LTM, VEP, ABR, SSEP, ERG. Positions patients as necessary, using proper body mechanics, to ensure accurate testing, positioning, lifting, and transporting patients. Accurately interprets data regarding patient status in consideration of patient age.
2. Effectively assists as directed with special procedures and/or minor surgeries.
3. Maintains appropriate aseptic and sterile procedures. Provides proper protective equipment to patients. Using sterile techniques, prepares patient monitoring lines and calibrates monitors.
4. Develops and implements accurate teaching plans to achieve desired patient outcomes.
5. Effectively correlates patient test results with the overall plan of care; identifies patient care needs as evidenced by appropriate nursing diagnosis.
6. Intervenes appropriately in situations where basic life support systems are threatened.
7. Administers patient treatments or procedures in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, and in compliance with all policies and regulations.
8. Utilizes clinical expertise to assist unit staff in providing patient care and education. Provides educational materials to patients and conducts effective patient/family teaching and documents to meet unit standards.

1. Accurately, consistently, and appropriately performs quality control on equipment ensuring all appropriate records are kept as required.
2. Accurately follows department procedures, ensuring equipment is in working condition, and turns off equipment as appropriate.
3. Appropriately assesses, controls, orders, and maintains supply inventory according to physician preferences, patient population, and associated patient charges, ensuring accurate record keeping.
4. Consistently performs quality control checks on all equipment as appropriate.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and high-level disinfection processes.
6. Demonstrates safe use and care of instruments and equipment.
7. Effectively operates specialized equipment.
8. Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping of supplies and equipment.
9. Performs routine equipment quality checks and troubleshoots equipment to determine problems and solutions.
10. Prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies for procedures in an organized and timely manner.
Interaction with healthcare team 10
1. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to document, assess, intervene, advocate and evaluate patients.
2. Demonstrates clinical expertise on councils, teams and committees.
3. Makes appropriate referrals to resolve patient issues effectively.
4. Reviews test results with physicians or other care providers in a timely manner.

Patient Charting/Billing 10
1. Assesses and documents the patient's physical and psychosocial condition initially and on an ongoing basis. Accurately evaluates and documents the patient/family response. Documents patient observations/care appropriately in the computer, on the flow sheets, or wherever appropriate. Effectively utilizes the computer to transcribe orders or request printouts.
2. Recognizes critical deviations in patient conditions, taking appropriate action and documenting intervention. Accurately performs computer data entry to record test results and patient information.
3. Accurately records procedures to ensure correct billing.
