Position Purpose
Under supervision, perform one or more standard repetitive laboratory procedures that require technical scientific knowledge, following all safety standards in a teaching or research laboratory. Assist PI and/or lab members with the execution of various laboratory procedures and the performance of ongoing associated research projects in the Zheng lab. The responsibilities include maintaining mouse breeding colonies and lab-generated inventories (DNA plasmids and cell lines) and lab chores. Other responsibilities may include sectioning, cloning, cell culture, and other duties as research needs fluctuate or change. The applicant should be comfortable with handling, breeding & genotyping of animals, including timed matings. |

Organize and keep laboratory animal breeding colony. Keep track of the mouse colony and write Animal Use Protocol/Forms for future experiments conducted by lab members. Occasionally assist with postdocs/students with lab animal experimental colony. Assist with data analysis and database updates as needed for the operations of the laboratory. Assist with laboratory experiments using a variety of genetic, molecular and biochemical approaches, incl. DNA and RNA extraction, cloning, and PCR/RT-PCR. Handling, breeding and genotyping of animals. Harvest organs from animals and perform sectioning. Maintain, freeze, thaw cell lines. |

1. Knowledge of use of routine lab equipment. 2. College-level coursework in biological science, chemistry, physics or related area. 3. Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. 4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 5. Demonstrated computer proficiency. 6. Skill in animal handling, in particular in vivo procedures, including but not limited to, timed matings. 7. Minimum of 2 years related laboratory experience. 8. Ability to follow laboratory protocols and work independently after initial supervision. 9. Ability to multi-task, adapt to changing work priorities and workloads. 10. Experience with cell culture, RNA extraction and RT-PCR, Western blotting. |
