Position Purpose
Under general direction, Hospitalists supervise and/or perform professional work in primary care medicine involving the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of hospital patients at UCR affiliate sites primarily in the Palm Springs region. This is a Per Diem appointment. Per Diem Physicians are hourly paid appointees whose primary purpose is clinical service. These appointments have a variable schedule and cannot exceed 43%. These appointments may be on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis as determined by the University. At minimum, incumbents are required to be available to work at least one day per month and one major holiday per calendar year as needed by the department. |

Hospitalists will engage in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility within the Hospitalist Program. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients currently in the hospital. 3. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team. 4. Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. 5. Instruct residents, interns, and students in a designated specialized medical service. |

Accurately documents needed information to bill for services by recording diagnosis codes and completing corresponding documentation. Works with UCR billing services department, both clinical and nonclinical people, to explain, confirm, and review charges. Provides supporting documentation as needed. |

UCR is recruiting per diem Hospitalist physicians at various levels from entry to experienced, and the successful candidates will be placed on the appropriate salary range based on years of experience ranging from the hourly rate of $95.00 - $125.00. |
Posted Minimum Requirements |
1. Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Completion of the residency or fellowship program in internal or family medicine. 2. Maintenance of California Medical License, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 3. Strong background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care. 4. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills. 5. Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others. 6. Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities. 7. Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice. |
