Maintenance B Supervisor - Electrical Shop

Position Information

The University of California, Riverside has an excellent opportunity for a skilled Electrical Shop Supervisor. The Maintenance B - Electrical Shop Supervisor oversees projects requiring skilled electrical/high voltage maintenance, construction, retrofit, repair and tenant improvements for UCR campus buildings. Supervises the maintenance, repair, installation or modification of industrial electrical equipment. Utilizes Physical Plant work order system to assign and track all work orders on campus. Reviews work orders, making work assignments to shop personnel based on the specific required skills for the project. Oversees the maintenance and operation of the campus primary and secondary distribution systems. Performs all job duties in adherence to all University and Departmental safety guidelines. Will perform other duties as assigned.

As part of the selection and screening process, applicants may be asked to participate in a skills assessment to determine qualifications.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have four years work experience as a journey-level electrician/high-voltage electrician or completion of formal apprenticeship training and an additional three years in an electrical maintenance supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated understanding of electrical work; knowledge of NEC standards and industry safety standards, codes and regulations. Demonstrated work experience in high voltage environments equal to or greater than 600 volts, (12-15KV) working in and around electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments and control systems. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment and lines.

Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory; series and parallel, circuits, line loading, line losses, and instruments used in shop and trade practices. Knowledge of troubleshooting and locating defects and trouble spots. Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage electric power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines without more than normal supervision. Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators, phase sticks and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, ampmeters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools. Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash, NEMA, and standard industry practices and ability to perform work safely. Knowledge of the Uniform Building Code, Industrial Safety Standards, code and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to generate accurate line-drawings, diagrams, schematics or specifications in the field as necessary. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blueprints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams.

Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to communicate and work effectively with employees, co-workers, supervisors, contractors, vendors, supplies, campus customers and the general public. Ability to estimate jobs and do take-offs. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform job duties. Ability to provide exceptional customer service. Knowledge of applicable computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2 and others).

Physically able to work from ladders, scaffolds, man-lifts, and boom trucks or stages at varying heights of up to 25 feet above grade; must be able to lift up to 70 pounds; able to work in confined spaces; able to perform repetitive bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling and reaching. Ability to work in confined and dusty spaces and wear respirator. Ability to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. Ability to work around and be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, dangerous and/or hazardous substances. Ability to follow safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety devices, equipment and gear. Ability to work occasional overtime and emergency call-back.

Must successfully complete a pre-employment, post-offer physical/drug screen and background check. Current CA driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications

California State Electrical License, National Cable Splicing Certification, Confined Space Certification.
