Position Information
The Electrical Engineering (EE) Department within the Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) is hiring an Associate Development Engineer responsible for developing and overseeing all the teaching labs in a fast paced, demanding and evolving department. This is a critical position for our mission to produce high quality EE graduates, and offers abundant opportunities to develop and use a wide range of knowledge and skills, from technical expertise to organization and time management skills. You will work with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in creating a safe lab environment and projects that are conducive to learning and teamwork, and interact with a diverse student population directly helping to mold and produce future engineers.
* Oversees and manages the EE instructional labs and EE shop; advises and collaborates with faculty regarding research labs; trains students to develop equipment and project and problem-solving skills; trains students, TAs, and other personnel in all aspects of laboratory operation and safety procedures.
* Supports student design projects and student professional club activities by providing technical training, support and lab access
* Oversees the adequacy of all electronics systems; configurations; assembly/construction; feasibility, testing and calibration of equipment, designs and various aspects of the operation for the entire College teaching laboratories and provides support for many of the College's research laboratories.
* Maintains information related to lab and equipment usages to assists with planning regarding ABET accreditation, department budget & planning, research support and systems/facilities operation. Acts as technical liaison and represents the Bourns College of Engineering at events and meetings involving design, expansion, safety and maintenance.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from college with major work in electrical engineering and three years of relevant experience, including one year of responsible design work; or an equivalent combination of additional education and experience.
Knowledge of theoretical aspects and applications of electrical engineering.
Ability to solve complex technical problems.
Skill in teaching practical applications of electrical engineering and technology to undergraduate/graduate students, researchers, scholars, etc.
Skill in practical aspects of circuit design, assembling, testing, repair.
Ability to use analog, modular, digital data acquisition systems of varying complexity. Ability to use hand tools, computers, office machines, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and other equipment typically used in the instructional laboratories.
Ability to communicate complex concepts to faculty, undergraduate/graduate students, administrative personnel and other non-technical individuals.
Ability to develop new procedures to test and verify designs, feasibility and system effectiveness.
Knowledge of mathematical formulas and correct calculation procedures.
Skill in teaching practical applications of electrical engineering and technology to undergraduate/graduate students, researchers, scholars, etc.
Skill in organizing, stocking and maintaining a laboratory.
Ability to write programming code in order to test, manufacture elaborate circuits, calibrate and standardize complex equipment, etc.
Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy in a culturally diverse work and teaching environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a research and/or instructional laboratory setting at an institution of higher education.
Knowledge of all safety procedures, laws, codes, regulations, policies, etc.
Knowledge of Matlab, Cadence, Xilinx or comparable software programs.
