Position Information

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Libraries is seeking nominations and applications for an experienced, energetic, and innovative professional to fill the position of Infrastructure Systems Engineer in the Information Technology Infrastructure Unit of the Information Technology and Systems Division.

Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Infrastructure Systems Engineer will provide technology services to the UCR University Libraries organization. Duties include, but are not limited to, administering and supporting the VMware cluster, Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory forest, backup and recovery systems, firewalls, VPNs, network switches, SANs, System Center (Configuration Manager and Operations Manager), shared services, and various aspects of deployed workstations and peripheral devices.

The Infrastructure team operates by developing, enhancing, and using repeatable and well-documented processes and procedures to achieve an efficient, reliable, and sustainable information technology environment. Best practices and security are included in all our efforts. Teamwork, collaboration, and the ability to tactfully communicate and share ideas with an interdisciplinary group of staff, patrons, and colleagues is essential. Our environment is dynamic, challenging, and requires the ability to handle shifting priorities. Occasional efforts outside of normal business hours will be required.

The University Libraries organization includes four physical libraries on the Riverside campus. The infrastructure includes 70 virtual machines and over 500 workstations. The UCR Libraries is a critical partner in preparing UCR's students to be globally competitive while simultaneously preparing them for careers in the Inland Empire and beyond. Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years hands-on experience in a production IT infrastructure environment.
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers and colleagues.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni.
Ability to work complex prioritized tasks through to completion.
Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and procedures as they become available.
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects with constantly shifting priorities.
Ability to clearly document complex technical processes and procedures.
Ability to take direction and maintain a positive attitude.

Experience with a majority of the following technologies:
VMware virtualization.
Windows servers.
Linux servers.
Web servers (Apache, IIS).
Network protocols.
Active Directory design and management.
Storage Area Networks (SANs).
iSCSI SAN connectivity.
Cisco switches.
Cisco ASA firewalls with IPS
Cable management.
Veeam Backup and Replication.
Microsoft WAIK system imaging tools.
Windows Certification Authority.
System Center Configuration Manager 2012 (SCCM).
System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
Third-party application implementations, support, and upgrades.
Database support and implementation (MySQL, SQL Server).
Capacity management.
Security analysis and tools, such as OSSEC.
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
Network security, including VPNs and Cisco Firewalls.
Backup and recovery systems, including deduplication technology, and tape libraries.
Digital production scanners and related imaging devices.
Microsoft Office productivity tools (Word, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint).
Cloud-based products and services.
Disaster recovery planning and simulation.

Preferred Qualifications

In-depth hands-on skills working with a variety of mature infrastructure technologies.
Experience working with an interdisciplinary team in an academic environment.
Project management experience.
Experience working with an interdisciplinary team on large-scale complex system implementations.
Experience with digital media production and implementation, such as Photoshop, Premiere, media players, kiosks, projectors, and related display technologies.
