Position Information
The University of California, Riverside Physical Plant Services Electrical Shop has an excellent opportunity available for a skilled electrician. The Maintenance B - Electrician, working in and around12,000volts (12KV), will perform routine maintenance and repair on electrical systems such as generators, exciters, transformers, motors, High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, DC systems, computerized lighting systems and battery chargers. Performs planned and emergency maintenance on electrical and lighting control systems in campus buildings. Performs troubleshooting as needed on equipment such as generators, transformers, switch gear, breakers, batteries, and Motor Control Centers (MCC) to identify potential or actual electrical equipment problems.
Maintains, repairs and installs electrical systems as assigned, such as panels, lights, controls, sensors, electrical systems, conduit, motors, operators, and wiring. Repairs and rewires systems according to building codes and safety regulations. Performs preventive maintenance on line and low voltage systems. Performs installation, programming, updating as well as servicing of Lutron (and other brands) lighting and shading control systems. Performs installation of new or modified electrical wiring and devices; troubleshooting, shop fabrications, predictive and preventive maintenance, inspections, test operations, services repairs or replacement. Participates in the design of assemblies, systems, equipment and/or controls, electrical and/or mechanical. Prepares drawings in detail showing measurements and materials with information obtained from blueprints and verbal instructions.
As part of the screening and selection process, candidates may be asked to participate in a skills assessment.

Minimum Requirements
Four years' work experience as a journey-level electrician or completion of formal apprenticeship training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated work experience with Lutron, Crestron and Savant controls, and/or Johnson Controls Metasys Building Management Systems, or similar lighting controls/building controls systems. Demonstrated knowledge of NEC standards and industry safety standards, codes and regulations. Understanding of work performed in high voltage environments greater than 600 volts, (12-15KV) working in and around electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments and control systems. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment and lines. Previous experience with confined space entry.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory; series and parallel, circuits, line loading, line losses, and instruments used in shop and trade practices. Knowledge of trouble shooting and locating defects and trouble spots. Ability to install, modify, test, repair, trouble shoot, and maintain electrical power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines without more than normal supervision. Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, ampmeters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools.
Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash, NEMA, and standard industry practices and ability to perform work safely. Knowledge of the Uniform Building Code, Industrial Safety Standards, code and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams. Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform job duties. Ability to provide exceptional customer service. Knowledge of applicable compute r programs (i.e . Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2 and others).
Physically able to work from ladders, scaffolds, man-lifts, and boom trucks or stages at varying heights of up to 25 feet above grade; must be able to lift up to 70 pounds; able to work in confined spaces; able to perform repetitive bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling and reaching. Ability to work in confined and dusty spaces and wear respirator. Ability to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. Ability to work around and be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, dangerous and/or hazardous substances. Ability to follow safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety devices, equipment and gear. Ability to work occasional overtime and emergency call-back.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment, post-offer physical/drug screen and background check. Current CA Driver's License
