Director, Asian Pacific Student Programs

Position Information

The University of California at Riverside seeks a dynamic and conscientious leader to serve as the Director of UCR's Asian Pacific Student Programs office. As part of its commitment to a diverse and inclusive educational experience, UCR supports 7 Ethnic and Gender Program offices that provide support to our diverse student body and create opportunities for learning across differences. As Director of the Asian Pacific Student Programs Office you would be responsible for the development of programs that provide support, education, and advocacy around issues related to Asian and Pacific Islander populations and provide support for this student population. In collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students and Assistant Dean of Students, you will lead your staff in providing vision and leadership in design, organization, development, implementation, coordination, marketing and evaluation of centralized, comprehensive, innovative programs and services that facilitate personal, social, and academic growth of Asian and Pacific Islander students and the Asian and Pacific Islander community.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a related field and significant experience as an advanced professional-level student affairs officer or unit manager/lead of a student affairs function or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of college education and experience.

Expert knowledge of issues and experiences of Asian and Pacific Islander students in Higher Education,
including student development theory, techniques and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations.

Leadership experience in program planning, design, and management and demonstrated creativity and experience developing and evaluating innovative programs.

Demonstrated skill in budget planning, preparation and administration. As well as a proven record of achievement, leadership and management. Substantial experience with the student affairs administration in a large university setting.

Skill in preparing comprehensive and in-depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted issues, particularly under tight time constraints.

Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain strong collegial relationships throughout the University system and broader communities. Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.

Excellent ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex issues with significant impact, and offer and implement creative solutions on sensitive, confidential, often volatile, and complicated issues with tact and political acumen.

Skill in analyzing policy issues, UC policy and procedures, and other directives and form solid recommendations.

Excellent written and verbal skills. Proven ability to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy with internal and external campus community and maintain confidentiality

Strong supervisory, training and motivational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the applicable UC policies and procedures governing areas related to the responsibilities of the job.

Masters Degree in a related field.
