Position Information

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Housing, Dining & Residential Services, the Child Development Center (CDC) Director is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of all early childhood programs in support of the mission, values and goals of the University of California Riverside for two Child Development Centers. This position is responsible for the continued operation of the CDC focusing on an educational system for young children and providing education and early care to approximately 288 UCR student, staff and faculty children, a career staff of 41 teachers, assistant teachers and admin support, as well as student interns and work study students. The CDC Director ensures that operations are in compliance with regulations and policies at the University level as well as the State Department of Education-Child Development Division, U.S. Department of Education, Title 5 and Title 22. This position is responsible for an annual budget of three million dollars, which includes University Registration Fees, Parent Fees, State and Federal Contracts and Grants.

Minimum Requirements

Master's Degree in related field with 5 years recent, successful, progressively responsible management experience in a large, complex environment.

Demonstrated skill in leadership and consensus building on significant organizational issues, and experience sustaining a high level of energy and enthusiasm for advancing ideas and programs in a shared governance environment.

Successful experience in successfully resolving customer concerns and planning and managing an operating budget that includes multiple funding sources.

Skill in writing grants, getting financial proposals approved and experience with accreditation process.

Experience in maintaining compliance with Title V of the California Education Code, Title 22 of Health and Safety code governing all aspects of State Contracts, Grants, as well as operation of a Child Development Center, including staffing ratios, teacher eligibility and education and program quality.

Successful experience using a broad range of oral and written communication methods to shape and advance management initiatives, and build alliances and partnerships.

Experience recruiting, managing, developing, retaining and promoting professional teaching teams, as well as all administrative and support professionals in an early childhood educational environment.

Experience in measuring performance of teams, processes, and services utilizing the results to shape successful improvements. Performance measures would include CDE Desired Results, Clifford and Harms ERS/ITERS, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, and others as required by the VCA, UCR and the University of California.

Experience modeling ethical behavior and acceptance of accountability for results, with experience and understanding of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

Proficiency in use of computers, PDA's and Microsoft software suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

Skill and experience serving as a resource professional and consultant in the field of Early Childhood Education.

Skill and experience in child, parent and family counseling in order to effectively support enrollee needs.

Skill in building a service environment of cooperation, customer service and mutual respect.

Master's Degree in Child Development, Educational Leadership or related field.
