Research Analyst

Position Information

The Research Analyst coordinates and oversees Student Affairs research and evaluation requests, performs statistical reporting, and administers and manages surveys, to include external survey response and consulting on internal survey requests. This position is responsible for providing enrollment planning analysis to campus committees, Student Affairs departments and programs, and others, as needed, in order to meet campus and organizational strategic and operational goals and performance metrics.

The Research Analyst is a key member of the Enrollment Management Systems team within the Student Affairs organization.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a field that requires prolonged training in analytic and statistical analysis and techniques, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience including 6 or more years of recent and progressive related experience.
Ability to lead projects and manage workload. Including experience with developing project scope, timelines, deliverables and objectives.
Experience managing, integrating, and organizing complex data systems and complex administrative data sets.
Ability to analyze and translate statistical information into language accessible to a variety of audiences.
Highly proficient in programming statistical software such as SPSS or SAS using command language or syntax to load, manage, and transform data; encode metadata, including variable and value labels; generate codebooks; report statistics; create tables and graphs; and produce user-ready datasets in various formats. Demonstrated advanced experience in the use of Microsoft Office desktop computer applications such as Access and Excel. Demonstrated experience with creating and managing databases and experience programming with SQL to retrieve data from databases.
Demonstrated ability to extract data, organize, and manipulate data from multiple sources, and to use appropriate analytic and statistical procedures needed to interpret the data and to prepare reports.
Demonstrated skill in preparing comprehensive and in-depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multifaceted issues, particularly under tight time constraints. High level of attention to detail.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with various constituencies at UCR, at other UC campuses, the Office of the President, other colleges and universities, and members of the public. Ability to work independently and as a team.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's or Ph.D. in a field that requires prolonged training in analytic and statistical analysis and techniques.
Experience working in student affairs or institutional research office at a research university.
Knowledge of federal and state laws, and academic policies and procedures as they apply to student records and financial aid.
Demonstrated experience with computer programming skills in a variety of languages.
Knowledge of the applicable UC policies and procedures governing areas related to the responsibilities of the job.
Demonstrated experience with UCR's Student Information System (SIS+) and/or Ellucian's Banner Student Information System.
Experience with IBM's Cognos.
