Position Information

The University of California, Riverside Libraries welcomes applicants for the position of Reserves and Public Services Coordinator to work for the Multimedia and Music Libraries, with an emphasis on digital resources and streaming film and audio files. We are seeking an experienced, customer-friendly professional to join our team and provide technical support for the audio/visual equipment in both libraries and act as a liaison to the UCR Libraries Cyberinfrastructure Unit in order to facilitate the implementation of streaming of audio and audio/visual files for Reserves. This position is 51% time in the Multimedia Library and 49% time in the Music Library. Must be able to work Monday-Friday 8:45 am-5:45 pm during the academic year. Must be able to work flexible hours for staffing in backup situations. Hours may vary from quarter to quarter. Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check.

Minimum Requirements

Experience working in a library facility in a public service capacity, including excellent speaking and writing ability using appropriate standard English grammar and vocabulary to communicate with individuals at various organizational levels. Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public and maintaining composure and a pleasant, welcoming manner in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni.

Experience using an integrated library system.

Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment sufficient to accurately set-up equipment at individual stations, as well as viewing/conference rooms, and to trouble-shoot and perform first-line maintenance on audio/visual equipment, including VHS, Blu-ray, DVD, and Laser Disc players, LP turntable, audio tape deck and television screens.

Ability to develop and deliver technical training to non-technical users, including writing skills sufficient to prepare and document procedures in regard to audio/visual equipment.

Ability to work efficiently and accurately with detail, make comparisons, perceive differences and interpret information in an integrated library system, as well as written and other online resources.

Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software (especially MS Word and MS Excel) and network applications such as electronic mail, web, news groups, etc.

Skill in researching and implementing solutions to meet the needs of providing resources through online technologies, such as the digital streaming of media files (film, music, and/or audio).

Familiarity with technical documents such as license agreements and equipment manuals as well as U.S. laws, international agreements, and other policies regarding copyright.

Skill in performing under conditions of frequent interruptions and following through on assignments with minimal supervision, including the ability to set priorities to accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.

Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals to take inventories and record statistics; keyboarding skills sufficient to enter data into an online system quickly and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Experience with the Millennium Integrated Library System and with the Library of Congress Classification system.

Detailed knowledge of UCR Libraries and UCR policies, practices, and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to recognize and understand simple spoken and written words and phrases in one or more foreign languages (e.g., titles of films and music works).

Knowledge of films, film literature, music and music literature.
