Sculpture Lab Assistant

Position Information

With general direction from the faculty and Finance & Administrative Officer (supervisor), this position manages the Sculpture Laboratory. Apply knowledge in the discipline of Art/Sculpture to assist in planning for faculty use, performing and assisting in teaching various techniques and methods, and manage and coordinate all administrative and operational functions related to the Sculpture Laboratory. Hire, train, and supervise student laboratory workers. Supervise open lab hours.

Minimum Requirements

1. Education equivalent to completion of upper-division college coursework in Art, Art History, or a related field.
2. Demonstrated experience working in an Art laboratory and/or studio.
3. Extensive knowledge of techniques, equipment and materials used in sculpture (metal, wood, ceramics, and other materials).
4. Experience using a variety of power and hand tools.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff.
7. Supervisory experience.
8. Ability to work with equipment, machinery and materials while adhering to safety standards. Ability to move large equipment safely. Ability to drive and walk distances to pick up supplies.
9. Computer proficiency. Knowledge of MS Office.
10. Strong organizational skills to organize instructional reference materials. Creative ability to recommend effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's and/or an advanced degree in a related field.
2. Demonstrated progressively responsible experience working in a laboratory and/or art studio.
3. Experience running, programing, and maintaining a CNC Router.
