Position Information

We are looking for a graphic /new media designer to join our well-established and growing interactive team of creative writers, web and graphic designers. You'll be part of a team that supports more than 40 departments in Student Affairs. We focus on all aspects of student life---from consideration, to application, to graduation and beyond, Student Affairs Communications creates the messaging and visual campaigns that put UCR top of mind to audiences around the world.

As a Graphic /new media designer in our department, you will work locally but think like a student outside California who is considering studying at UCR, since the audience you'll be marketing to is out-of-state students and their parents. Whether you are taking the next step in your career or have been searching for a great career-making engagement, consider our team.

You will be responsible for working with a team of writers and other designers to create and implement marketing and communication campaigns using print, web, digital, mobile, and video and any other medium that students use to obtain information about choosing a university. As someone who must be able to design for web, you must also be well-versed in web development and user experience design.

1 year appointment and the possibility of extension depending upon available funding.

A portfolio of your most compelling design work will be required. Please be sure to print, web, email, and video design samples.

Minimum Requirements

Two (2) years of experience in the coordination and production of publications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Minimum of one (1) year graphic and web design experience in an ad agency, interactive agency, or in-house creative department with the ability to develop and deploy complex, multi-part campaigns and projects for international markets.

Knowledge of and ability to design, market, and message to international college student audiences, in China, Thailand, and India.

Must be proficient to create award-winning designs and campaigns using the newest versions of creative tools including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Distiller, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Flash) also Intermediate or expert ability in HTML JavaScript, CSS, Flash, and Action Script. Skilled in Mac platform, Microsoft Office Suite, Powerpoint, Excel, Text Edit.

Excellent organization and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and to adjust to frequent changes in project priorities; proven ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects and components while meeting project milestones and deadlines.

Expert ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally with team members, clients, and vendors, as well as the ability to present concepts to groups in a formal setting.

Must be self-motivated and able to successfully work with little or no supervision and to deliver work that is considered innovative and well beyond the standard also demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness and the ability to monitor work to ensure quality.

Professional demeanor and the ability to provide superior client service; demonstrated skill in identifying the correct issues to be communicated, the appropriate audience, the method of communication, and the timing of the communication.

Must be extremely detailed-oriented and well organized with the ability to work well under pressure to meet aggressive deadlines with the ability to take direction, accept constructive criticism gracefully, and to be tactful when critiquing the work of others.

Expert ability to develop marketing strategies that create collaborative opportunities between the Student Affairs Communications and the campus.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of college in graphic design, new media design, visual design, web design, or related discipline.

Five (5) years graphic and web design experience in an ad agency, interactive agency, or in-house creative department with the ability to develop and deploy complex, multi-part campaigns and projects for international markets.

Beginning to intermediate experience in Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, or Final Cut Pro.

Beginning to intermediate experience in animation or 3D modeling.

Experience working in a content management environment. Familiarity with young adult culture and under-served populations.
