Position Information

The Director of Development (DoD) at the UC Riverside School of Business Administration (SoBA) serves as a front line major gift officer and promotes the university's fundraising priorities and image to alumni, business professionals, community leaders, parents, and friends of the university. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for External Relations, UCR School of Business Administration, the DoD is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective donors who have capacity to make major and principal philanthropic gifts. This position is field-oriented and requires significant direct contact with prospects and donors. The DoD will travel frequently in the Inland Southern California region and will also be assigned an additional regional area to cover. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

SoBA is an organization driven by key performance indicators (KPIs), and the DoD will be responsible for meeting visit, solicitation, and fundraising goals as they relate to the strategic needs of SoBA as well as the broader university. Due to UC Riverside's highly matrixed organizational structure and interdisciplinary approach to outreach, collaboration within SoBA as well as across the university, at all levels, will be a critical driver of success. Performance as measured against KPIs will be evaluated quarterly and annually.

Minimum Requirements

-Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

-Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fund raising, preferably within a major research university environment.

-Understanding of academic, research and education functions and operation principles of a major research university.

-Experience and skill in directing a complex development program within a major university.

-Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design and implement a development program. Ability to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and University leaders and volunteers to achieve fund raising goals.

-Ability to work effectively with other advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs.

-Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fund raising in general and in particular as it applies to UCR.

-Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.

Preferred Qualifications

-M.B.A. degree

-Three to five years experience in fundraising, preferably in higher education at a business school.

-Knowledge of a broad range of academic and institutional issues related to a major research university environment.

-Experience with major fundraising and capital campaigns.

-Demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of staff personnel.
