Position Information

The State of California’s twin mission of providing well-qualified students access to quality higher education and guiding talented faculty to enhanced research infrastructures is at a crossroad: the number of potential students wishing to enroll at the University of California is fast outpacing public resources and the spectacular growth in extramural-funded faculty researchers is expanding faster than the availability of infrastructure and space. The University of California needs talented leadership to manage our physical space portfolio through innovative policies, metrics, analytics, and strategies. The mission of The Executive Director is to manage and optimize the physical environment which will support our next generation of top-tier students and faculty with qualitatively superior spaces while ensuring financial viability. We are looking for a scrappy and creative problem solver who wants to take on the challenge of transforming the University's strategy to acquire, build, occupy, and manage our physical asset portfolio.

The Executive Director position is situated in the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget’s organization as part of the Capital Asset Strategies team. The position efforts will directly influence and guide campus leadership by proposing space management policies, designing sophisticated utilization models, reviewing existing and future space assignments and uses, and making recommendations for reassignment to increase productivity. The results of the efforts will lead to data-driven decisions on how to align and maximize our physical asset resources to the outcomes that matter most: providing optimized space solutions to support student and faculty success in academia.

Above all we are looking for an excellent communicator as the position will interface directly with Vice Chancellors and Deans on all space issues and lead diverse groups of people and interests throughout the campus community to reach consensus on space uses, assignments, and optimizations. The Executive Director will be the first person to visualize the solution that is needed, refine it by culling between good and bad feedback, and deliver critical development projects that will directly impact UC Riverside’s future. Come join our leadership team and help transform our environment into the campus of tomorrow.
