Position Information

Under the general supervision of Computing and Communications Senior Director of Enterprise Solutions, the purpose of this position is to create design and technical specifications and develop effective and high quality solutions that meet the University¿s reporting requirements using Cognos. The technical domain of the Business Intelligence (BI) Developer includes understanding BI best practices, tools and technologies, security in the environment, understanding of different data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts, BI development, performance tuning and support system testing. Additional responsibilities include:
- Creating, enhancing and maintaining Framework Manager models and reporting data structures to support business requirements using a full lifecycle implementation
- Working with business users to design, develop and deploy Cognos BI 10 multi-dimensional reports (such as Dynamic Cubes and MDX) using Report Studio with data drill-down and slice-and-dice options
- Creating necessary PowerCubes by using the Transformer tool
- Developing and implementing test plans to ensure successful delivery of a project
- Administering security for users, roles and groups
- Applying patches and upgrading - Exporting / importing definitions between various environments
- Strong SQL knowledge and tuning skills
- Preferred familiarity with the Linux environment, Oracle database design and version control
Assignments typically require advanced, current knowledge of hardware, software, systems analysis techniques, and/or specialized knowledge in administrative functions or disciplines. All software applications produced must be of the highest production quality (e.g., available 24x7 with minimal scheduled downtime). The potential user base includes virtually all campus constituents (administrative and academic) as well as users at the University of California, Office of the President.
