Position Information

Under the leadership of the Sr. Director of Development and in close collaboration with the dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS), UC Riverside seeks a motivated, energetic, innovative, collaborative, and knowledgeable individual to assume the position of director of development (DoD) for the college, with a focus on UC Riverside's agricultural initiatives. The individual in this position will develop and execute long-and short-term strategies to grow the philanthropic pipeline and secure annual and major gifts ($25,000+) in support of the Division of Agricultural Sciences. Support from alumni, local community members, state and local government, corporations, and statewide prospects will benefit critical capital projects, research programs, and students. The incumbent will work with and engage a variety of vested groups including local and state government, the California Citrus Board, state commodity boards, and industry specific corporations. The DoD will identify and manage a group of approximately 150 prospective and current donors and will travel locally and statewide frequently for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes. Fundraising support for capital projects will benefit a new Agricultural Operations Educational Center, four Plant Growth Environment Facilities, and various other projects included in the university's master plan. Programmatic philanthropy will support faculty research, graduate student fellowships, undergraduate research opportunities, and additional divisional needs. The DoD will arrange appropriate opportunities for key faculty, Cooperative Extension Specialists, and academic leadership to meet with prospective donors and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences' 13 departments comprise the college's three divisions led by divisional deans: Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. This unique structure, the rich history of the California Citrus Experiment Station becoming the founding unit of the university in 1954, and the Department of Entomology's #1/2 nationwide ranking have resulted in the need for dedicated philanthropic engagement from a DoD. The incumbent will be instrumental in planning and executing annual giving appeals and major gift strategies in collaboration with the CNAS Development team and will help raise $100M of the university's $300M "Living the Promise" campaign goal by 2020. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same benefits afforded career employees. Cover letter and application required for consideration.
