Position Information

The incumbent in this position serves as the Rivera Library Evening Access Services Assistant and is responsible for providing assistance and administering public service functions and transactions to patrons at the Circulation/Reserves Desk primarily in the evening hours; assists in maintaining the library's patron database, processing various file loads and reviewing patron records for accuracy; coordinates and compiles departmental statistics; responsible for opening the Library Facility on Sundays, but may occasionally be asked to shift schedule to close Sundays in the absence of the Night & Billing Coordinator; assumes responsibility for the functional operation of the Circulation/Reserves Services Unit and the Rivera Library during breaks or other absences of the Night & Billing Coordinator; coordinates emergency situations and assists staff in other units in solving patron difficulties in the absence of the Night & Billing Coordinator; may be used as backup in emergency situations in Circulation/Reserve Services.

Must be able to work Sunday 12:45-9:45 P.M., Monday-Thursday 3:15 P.M. - 12:15 A.M. during the academic year. Must be able to work daytime shifts during summer and intersession periods.

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated experience working with the public in a service oriented environment.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to apply special attention to detailed tasks.

Math skills sufficient to accurately gather, compare, and compile information.

Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in applying appropriate guidelines to specific tasks and in making decisions.

Ability to work with constant interruptions and handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously.

Ability to organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.

Experience working with MS Office, email programs, and the Internet. Ability to learn specialized software.

Experience using an Integrated Library System, such as Alma.

Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and push loaded book trucks weighing up to approximately 250 lbs.

Ability to successfully pass a background investigation.

Must be able to work flexible hours for staffing in backup situations, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Academic library experience.

Experience working at a Circulation Desk.

Experience opening/closing a library facility.

Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, and direct the work of others.

Knowledge and demonstrated use of an online Accounts Receivable System, such as Banner.

Experience handling safety and emergency situations.
