Position Information

Undergraduate Education promotes student success by enriching the undergraduate experience and empowering students to reach their highest potential. Our students will become leaders, engaged global citizens, and life-long learners. The University Innovation Alliance Fellow reports to the Vice Provost and Dean, Undergraduate Education (VPDUE). UCR is a founding member of the University Innovation Alliance (www.theuia.org) -- a network of eleven large public research universities committed to increasing the number and diversity of college graduates in the United States. The UIA Fellowship program, a full-time university leadership development program, places top-tier early career professionals with UIA member institutions for limited-term appointments. All UIA Fellows engage in critical work to help member institutions identify new solutions, scale proven innovations, and communicate and diffuse outcomes. Fellows also provide the main connection between the member institutions, and are responsible for facilitating and implementing UIA projects. Recent and ongoing projects include: adopting predictive analytics and dynamic degree planning software, experimenting with proactive advising methods, implementing completion grants, and redesigning career services. UIA Fellows also support the central UIA office, help to coordinate periodic convenings of the member institutions, contribute to UIA organizational planning efforts, help to develop and write funding proposals, and contribute to other student success projects at their home campuses. The Fellowship provides a collaborative, fast-paced, and challenging experience coupled with training in cutting edge transferable skills, such as Design Thinking, and pressing issues in higher education. A successful fellow is deeply committed to student success and principles of diversity and inclusion and has excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Fellows must be creative and critical thinkers who are passionate about innovation in higher education leadership. Fellows must be proactive and independent problem solvers who also work effectively in teams and who are able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple time sensitive tasks and competing responsibilities with only general direction from a supervisor. Previous experience in higher education or project management is helpful but not required. In addition to university-level efforts, each UIA fellow will spend approximately 15 percent of their time supporting UIA central initiatives and helping to disseminate our collective learnings related to innovating and scaling student success initiatives.

This is a 2-year contract position with the second year based on funding availability.

The budgeted hiring salary is up to $70,000.

Additional Information

In the Heart of Inland Southern California, UC Riverside is located on nearly 1,200 acres near Box Springs Mountain in Southern California; the park-like campus provides convenient access to the vibrant and growing Inland region. The campus is a living laboratory for the exploration of issues critical to growing communities' air, water, energy, transportation, politics, the arts, history, and culture. UCR gives every student, faculty and staff member the resources to explore, engage, imagine and excel.

UC Riverside is recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the country boasting several key rankings of which we are extremely proud.

  • UC Riverside was included in the (August 2018) edition of The Princeton Review's "The Best 382 Colleges."

  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University (August 2017) Academic Ranking of World Universities ranked UC Riverside among the top 151 institutions. This survey bills itself as "the most trustworthy precursor of global rankings of the world's top 500 universities."

  • In 2016, UCR was recognized for graduation rate success by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) for achieving near parity across racial-ethnic, socio-economic, and gender boundaries.

  • UCR ranks among the Top 15 Public Research Universities in the nation, as identified by the 2017 Washington Monthly.

  • In 2017, two separate reports from the Education Trust celebrated UCR as a national leader for African American and Latino student success. UCR was one of just three schools to be named top-performing institutions in both reports and the only California campus recognized among 18 top-performing colleges and universities in the nation for high black student graduation rates.
