Residency Development Specialist

Position Information

The Residency Development Specialist will advise medical students on a full range of residency exploration and development plans for the residency application process and transition to residency, including group/individual advising, residency application planning, workshops, mock sessions, and tools to support specialty specific residency application services. Creates and modifies workshops and presentations as necessary to cater to the specific student populations. Trains and maintains relationships with faculty advisors and mentors for residency development planning. Develops new residency advising/coaching services and counsels medical students and alumni on residency pathways and opportunities. Works in tandem with the Director of Academic Success to track student progress to maximize MATCH succes. Collaborates with staff/faculty across campus for workshop and development opportunities geared toward residency preparation. Serves as the medical school liaison between the AAMC and NRMP as the two key portal/resource sites for residency processing. Works with the Student Affairs team to help organize and carry out major events and activities such as Residency Match, SOAP, Recruitment Day, Orientation Week, graduation ceremonies and various Medical Student Life events. Provides staff support for Careers in Medicine initiatives. This position may travel up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Requirements

Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations related to the responsibilities of the position, including Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Working knowledge of admissions requirements for the UCR School of Medicine.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning, production and public relations. Organizational ability to coordinate student programs and events.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions.
Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills necessary to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
Working knowledge of UC, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public.
Working knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at UC.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.

Knowledge of and experience with Banner or equivalent student records systems.
