Systems Administrator

Position Information

Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering & Operations, the System Administrator is responsible for maintaining technical solutions to support the Information Technology Solutions department. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for operating, monitoring, deploying, documenting, patching, and troubleshooting core system infrastructure such as server operating systems, server hardware, virtualization platforms, storage arrays, and applications. The System Administrator position is a subject matter expert in data center-centric to Cloud-based infrastructure that envision future state technologies, delivering increased agility, scalability, performance, and resiliency. This role will support, analyze, administer, and deploy solutions to drive technology modernization and the incorporation of industry best practices. This position is classified as primarily remote with occasional visits to campus as needed. Working hours will be based on Pacific Standard Time (PST). ITS is recruiting for a total of four positions

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required

Certifications

AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification Preferred
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certification Preferred
Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) Certification Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement
4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
Hands-on experience with Windows AD directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, Windows Server environments, and Office 365 components. Required
Demonstrated experience running cloud based workloads on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Required
Demonstrated experience administering both Linux and Windows servers as well hands on experience with Linux shell and Perl. Required
Hands-on experience with server backup tools such as Veeam, Backup Exec, and experience managing complex patching deployments of various systems. Required

Must actively participate in an on-call rotation supporting a 24/7 IT operation. Required

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.
Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
Ability to manage server and infrastructure hardware in an enterprise-class data center environment. Ability to manage various storage technologies including SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, clustered file systems, and storage operating systems.
Advanced knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware ESXi, Docker, or Kubernetes to manage virtualized workloads.
Experience installing, managing, and supporting IIS, Tomcat, Weblogic, or other application servers.
Experience with the following protocols: HTTP, FTP, DNS, LDAP, IMAP, SMTP, SSL, SSH, CIFS, NFS.
Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of installation and maintenance of database platforms: (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL).
