Library Facilities Sr. Building Maintenance Worker

Position Information

Under general supervision of the Head of Library Facilities, this position is to maintain general conditions of the University Library, to ensure the safety, security and comfort for student, staff, and academics. The Senior Building Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance, including but not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, replacing lamps, drywall, paint, installing & moving furniture, seismic bracing of file cabinets and bookcases. Maintain operating data in the form of paper and/or computer logs of building repairs. Retrieve and enter customer service requests via a computer. Performs duties in the Library Receiving Departments which includes sorting & delivering mail between the libraries, wrapping up outgoing books and equipment for library departments.

Advanced degree. Preferred
Trade school completion. Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement
2 years of related mailroom and delivery experience Preferred
2 years of related building maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required
Experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance duties. Required
Demonstrated experience in diagnosing problems with small equipment and furniture. Required
Experience working on campus in related field. Preferred

Special Conditions

Special Condition Requirement
Ability to use computers with Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Library Inventory Program and Facilities Work Order System. Required
Ability to operate small and medium trucks. Required
Ability to safely lift or move items weighing up to 70 pounds. Required
May be required to work overtime. Required
Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required

Minimum Requirements

Ability to respond to facility emergencies as they arise.
Skill in the safe use of power and hand tools to perform, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, cleaning and other related duties.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni.
Skills in performing basic math calculations, such as add and subtract whole numbers, decimals, and fractions as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities
Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job responsibilities.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work independently and set priorities that meet deadlines and delivery services on time.
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, organizational and team work skills.
Demonstrated ability to use time correctly and professionally within University policy while keeping department goals and objectives in mind.
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods of time on ladders in and around public areas and in employee offices.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of US Postal, UPS, FedEx regulations.

Knowledge of the location of library personnel and library departments and campus departments for deliveries.

Knowledge of California building codes.

Ability to read and understand architectural blueprints.
